MOURNING SONGS (ABC, New!) - Dave Finkel and Brett Baer have scored a put pilot commitment from the Alphabet for a single-camera comedy which "centers on a 35-year-old composer who, after the tragic death of his father, is forced to move back home to live with his mom, help his family heal and grow up, possibly for the very first time." The project, which is based on the life of songwriter Ryan Langer with whom they'll co-write the script, comes from the ABC Studios-based Maniac Productions with the company's Michael Seitzman and Christina Davis also executive producing. STUMPTOWN (ABC) - Zosia Mamet, Jay Duplass and Zulay Henao will all guest on the show's second installment, about Elias (Duplass), "a lovelorn widower who becomes taken with a woman named Katrina (Mamet) and hires Dex (Cobie Smulders) to track her down." Henao then is recurring as Denise, "the wife of a now-deceased informant Hoffman (Michael Ealy) used to work with who is now involved in a complicated situation with him." (Variety.com)

TROLL (Amazon, New!) - Writer Lee Sung Jin and director Rhys Thomas have set up a new comedy series at the streaming service about "an eternal optimist, who refuses to give up on his dreams of being a world-renowned documentary filmmaker, despite living off gig economy apps and never actually making a documentary. Joe Lewis, a former Amazon Studios executive, will also executive produce via his Amplify Pictures banner. (Deadline.com, 9/22)

The CW, home to Padalecki's long-running series "Supernatural," is reportedly the leading contender to land the project. Padalecki would play Cordell Walker, "a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state's most elite unit. Our broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case - only to discover that there's even more work to be done at home."
