CHRIS SLOAN NAMED VICE PRESIDENT, ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMMING, CBS ENTERTAINMENT

Chris Sloan has been named Vice President, Alternative Programming, CBS Entertainment, it was announced by Nancy Tellem, President, CBS Entertainment, to whom Sloan will report.

In his position, Sloan is responsible for overseeing the development and production of all CBS alternative programming including reality series, game shows and other unique forms of programming.

Sloan joins CBS from Washington, D.C.-based TLC Network where he has been vice president of production since 2003, overseeing all programming including the hit series "Trading Spaces." Among the other series he oversaw were "Trading Spaces: Home Free," "Overhaulin'," "Bodywork," "Faking It" as well as the revamped daytime schedule.

From 2000-2002, Sloan served as senior vice president, reality programming and specials for USA Network, where he oversaw and developed all non-scripted programming including specials, late night, prime reality, comedy, game, music and awards programming. He helped develop the series "Nashville Star," "The Real Cannonball Run" and "Combat Missions."

From 1997-2000, Sloan was senior vice president, marketing and promotion, creative Director at USA Broadcasting where he oversaw the marketing, on-air promotion and branding for the USA Broadcasting station group.

Prior to that, Sloan was creative director and co-founder of NBC-2000, the Network's branding unit, from 1994-1996. From 1992-1994, he worked in the NBC On-Air Promotion department as a writer/produce/editor. Sloan began his entertainment career as a producer/camerman on the ESPN series, "Jimmy Houston Outdoors."

"Chris's experience and out-of-the-box thinking will help build upon CBS's leadership position in the reality and alternative programming area," said Tellem. "As unscripted programming becomes an increasingly important part of network primetime real estate, we look to Chris to develop smart and original program formats that will translate into the kinds of successful series that both capture the imagination of our viewers and play a meaningful role on our schedule."

"I am very pleased to be joining the team where the current reality movement began," said Sloan, "and look forward to taking the genre in innovative directions for CBS, its audience and advertisers."

CBS maintains a leadership position in the reality genre with the hit franchises "Survivor" (both of last season's editions finished in the top 10 among viewers and adults 18-49), "Big Brother" (the Tuesday and Thursday editions are in the top 10 this summer among adults 18-49 and top 15 in viewers) and the Emmy Award-winning "The Amazing Race" (ranked third this summer in adults 18-49 and in the top 10 in viewers).

Sloan attended the University of Tulsa. He is the recipient of 13 gold and 19 silver Promax Awards, 22 Emmy Awards and a Broadcast Design Association Silver Award. In 2000, Sloan's USA Network team won more Promax Awards than any other organization.
