THE AMAZING RACE (CBS) - Fans of the Emmy-winning reality series will have twice the number of "Race"s next season. Various sources have confirmed the Eye has asked producers for a second edition for the 2008-09 season. While scheduling won't be confirmed until tomorrow, it's believed like "Survivor," one edition will air in the fall (its 13th) with another in the spring (its 14th).

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER/THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE/RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (CBS) - The Eye has renewed all three half-hours for next season, where they'll join fellow returning comedies "The Big Bang Theory" and "Two and a Half Men" as well as newcomers "Project Gary" and "Worst Week." Said pickups are believed to be part of CBS's efforts to once again expand its comedy presence outside its signature Monday lineup. The news marks the third season for "Rules" and the fourth for "Mother" and "Christine," the latter of which was rumored to be heading to ABC if CBS passed. In other comedy news, Eye sibling CBS Paramount Network Television is reportedly looking to co-produce "Week" alongside Universal Media Studios. TV Week's Josef Adalian suggests the studio will do so with the caveat that CBS schedule the show out of "Two and a Half Men" on Monday nights, a slot believed to be reserved for "Gary." Not surprisingly, none of the parties involved will comment until CBS announces its 2008-09 lineup tomorrow.

MOONLIGHT/SHARK/THE UNIT (CBS) - The hammer has come down on "Moonlight" and "Shark," one day before the Eye's upfront presentation to the advertising community. Conversely, "The Unit" - which hasn't aired a new episode in 2008 - has been picked up for a fourth season. Both "Moonlight" and "Shark" have struggled in their post-strike returns. In "Shark's" case, its 75.86% average retention rate of "NCIS" among adults 18-49 fell well short of previous occupant "The Unit's" 85.57% rate this season. Meanwhile, "Moonlight's" 2.2 average rating in the key demographic fell 12% shy of bookends "Ghost Whisperer" and "NUMB3RS" (2.5 each). A similar fate befell last year's Friday, 9:00/8:00c occupant "Close to Home" - a 2.6 average rating compared to "Ghost" (3.0) and "NUM3ERS" (3.0), a dip of 13.33%.
