IFC Renews Original Comedy Series "Portlandia" for a Second Season

10 New Episodes Set to Debut in January 2012

NEW YORK, NY - February 14, 2011 - IFC has green lit a second season of viewer favorite Portlandia, the IFC original, short-based, comedy series created, written by and starring Fred Armisen (SNL) and Portland-native Carrie Brownstein (vocalist/guitarist, Sleater-Kinney). The network has ordered 10 new, half-hour episodes to premiere in January 2012.

"We're thrilled with the success of Portlandia and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from our viewers," said Debbie DeMontreux, senior vice president, original programming, IFC. "Fred and Carrie's humor is perfectly in line with the sensibility and comedic tone of IFC which makes this show such a great fit for us. This early renewal signifies that IFC's alt comedy programming is indeed resonating with our audience."

According to Live+3 data from Nielsen Media, the initial three episodes of Portlandia have been viewed by a combined audience of over 1.1 million total viewers and over 700,000 A18-49, IFC's target audience.

Season one, which debuted on January 21 and concludes on Friday, February 25 at 10:30 pm, features a host of guest stars including: Selma Blair (Hellboy); Heather Graham (The Hangover); Aimee Mann (Community); Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Sex & The City); singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan; Edie McClurg (Ferris Bueller's Day Off); Kumail Nanjiani (Michael & Michael Have Issues); Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation); Jason Sudeikis (The Cleveland Show); Gus Van Sant (Milk); indie musician James Mercer (The Shins), and local Portland musicians Jenny Conlee and Colin Meloy (The Decemberists) and Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney). The premiere season will.

Shot entirely on location in Portland, the series is directed, co-created and co-written by Jonathan Krisel (SNL; Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!). Portlandia is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video. For IFC, the series is executive produced by Jennifer Caserta, Debbie DeMontreux, Dan Pasternack and Evan Shapiro.

Portlandia is based on a web series Armisen and Brownstein produced together called "ThunderAnt."
