PARIAH (NBC, New!) - Kevin Fox ("Lie to Me") has booked a new drama at the Peacock in which "the Mayor of San Diego appoints a rogue academic with no law enforcement background to run a task force using alternative methods of policing." Said effort, from Lionsgate Television, features characters inspired by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner's book "Freakonomics." Kelsey Grammer, Stella Stolper and Brian Sher of Grammnet Productions will also serve as executive producers alongside Fox with Levitt and Dubner also receiving producing credits. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED JOSS WHEDON PROJECT (ABC, New!) - Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. Said pact calls for Whedon to write and direct "The Avengers 2" as well as, according to a statement from the company, "help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel's cinematic universe."(Deadline.com)

Barry will guest on "New Girl" as an old man in a bar Nick (Jake Johnson) meets who claims to himself from the future (EW.com); Rachael Harris is bound for "Happy Endings" as a real estate agent who helps a reunited Dave (Zachary Knighton) and Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) find a place (TVLine.com); British comedian Matt Lucas will recur on "Community" as a yet-to-be-revealed character (TVLine.com); Zooey Deschanel, Max Weinberg and Robert A. Caro will appear in an upcoming Valentine's Day-themed episode of "The Simpsons," joining the previously announced Benedict Cumberbatch (TVLine.com); Phoebe Tonkin is bound for "The Vampire Diaries" as "a wild, sexy and very free-spirited friend with whom Tyler (Michael Trevino) shares a past" (TVGuide.com); "Glee" star Kevin McHale is reportedly under consideration to co-host "The X Factor" this fall (TVGuide.com); Brandon W. Jones will guest on "Pretty Little Liars" as Andrew Campbell, a major love interest for Troian Bellisario's Spencer in the books (EOnline.com); and incoming "Nurse Jackie" showrunner Clyde Phillips has signed a new two-year overall deal with producer Lionsgate Television (Deadline.com).
