THE COMEDIANS (FX/FTS; W: Ben Wexlerm Billy Crystal, Larry Charles & Matt Nix; D: Larry Charles) - Josh Gad ("1600 Penn") is set to star opposite Billy Crystal in the comedy pilot, about "a young, hip comic on the rise (Gad) who resents - and rails against - his pairing with an aging superstar comedian (Crystal) for a late-night comedy sketch show." He'll also receive a producing credit on the project, which is based on a Swedish format. (Deadline.com)


FOREVER (ABC, New!) - Matthew Miller ("666 Park Avenue") has snagged a put pilot commitment for a new drama about Henry Morgan, "a 200-year-old man who spends his days working in the New York City Morgue trying to find a key to unlock the curse of his immortality." Warner Bros. Television is behind the hour, which also comes from the studio-based Lin Pictures. The latter's Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz then are executive producing alongside Miller. (Deadline.com)


OLIVE KITTERIDGE (HBO; W: Jane Anderson; D: Lisa Cholodenko) - John Gallagher Jr., Jesse Plemons and Zoe Kazan have joined the cast of the mini-series about "a seemingly placid New England town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy, told through the lens of Olive (Frances McDormand), whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart and a staunch moral center." Gallagher plays Christopher Kitteridge, the son of Olive and Henry (Richard Jenkins); with Kazan as Denise, "who works with Henry at his pharmacy"; and Plemons as Jerry McCarthy, "Henry's delivery boy at the pharmacy." Playtone's Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are also executive producing the project, which is based on the novel by Elizabeth Strout. (Deadline.com)


ST. NICK (FOX, New!) - Thomas Moran ("House") has landed a script commitment at the network for "an irreverent drama about a young Catholic priest going down a morally corrupt road for all the right reasons." 20th Century Fox Television is behind the hour, which has a penalty attached. TYRANT (FX/Fox 21; W: Craig Wright; D: David Yates) - Adam Rayner ("Hunted") has booked the male lead on the drama pilot, about an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. He'll play said father, Barry, in the project, which also features Ashraf Barhom, Mehdi Dehbi, Jordana Spiro, Justin Kirk, Moran Atias, Salim Daw and Sibylla Deen. (Deadline.com)


AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Nickelodeon won't move forward with a second season of its freshman comedy "Wendell & Vinnie" (Deadline.com); MTV has renewed "The Real World" for a 29th edition which will see the show return to San Francisco (Variety.com); Dan Fogelman has inked an overall deal with ABC Studios, home to his sophomore comedy "The Neighbors" (Deadline.com); Nick Thiel has been promoted to co-showrunner of "White Collar" alongside creator Jeff Eastin (Deadline.com); Lindsay Lohan will guest on "Eastbound & Down" as "the daughter of one of the show's main characters [in] a wedding scene set many years in the future" (EOnline.com); newcomer Chris Wood is bound for "The Carrie Diaries" as a wunderkind playwright who develops a professional relationship with Carrie (TVLine.com);
