ACT, THE (Hulu) - Joey King will star opposite Patricia Arquette in the anthology series as Gypsy Blanchard, "a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother, Dee Dee (Arquette). Her quest for independence opens a Pandora's box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder." (Deadline.com)
CHI, THE (Showtime) - Kimberly Hebert Gregory, Carl Lumbly and Curtiss Cook will recur on the show's sophomore run as Kimberly Hendricks, "a razor-sharp power attorney working on behalf of Ronnie (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine)"; Walter Dion Burkes, "the ranking member and founder of the 63rd St. Mob"; and Douda, "a successful Southside businessman and hustler, who also has ties to Reg (Barton Fitzpatrick)." EMPIRE (FOX) - Actor/singer Mario is bound for the new season as Devon, "an earnest, up-and-coming R&B singer who supports his ailing sister." (THR.com)
FIRST WIVES CLUB (Paramount) - Ryan Michelle Bathe will join Jill Scott and Michelle Buteau as the principal triptych on the upcoming film-turned-TV series. She'll play Ari, "a confident, type-A attorney with impeccable style and not a single of strand of hair out of place. She was on track to make partner but sidestepped her career to advance her husband's political ambitions and raise their two kids. When a crisis reunites her with her best friends from college, she is able to translate her kick-ass courtroom skills to help them reclaim their independence and rekindle the camaraderie (and fun) of their college glory days." FOR THE PEOPLE (ABC) - Charles Michael Davis ("Younger") has joined the cast of the show's second season as Ted, "the new investigator in the Public Defender's office." Said role will be concurrent with his duties to the TV Land-turned-Paramount Network comedy. (Deadline.com)
GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) - Alex Landi will recur on the upcoming season as Dr. Nico Kim, "the series' first gay male surgeon." (TLVine.com)
MD-1 (CBS, New!) - Dr. Mehmet Oz is executive producing a potential drama at the Eye about "a team of street doctors who take on the biggest catastrophes in New York, saving lives without ever setting foot in an emergency room or hospital." Greg Spottiswood is writing the hour with Lisa Oz, Osprey Productions' Josh Berman and Chris King likewise executive producing for Sony Pictures Television. Additionally, Dr. Mark Merlin is set to serve as technical consultant on the show. (Variety.com)
SINGLE PARENTS (ABC) - Hannah Simone will drop by two episodes of the freshman comedy as Dr. Monique Dewan, a "brilliant, sexy and terrifying pediatrician, and the first woman Will (Taran Killam) has dated post-divorce." (TVLine.com)
SURVEILLANCE (CBS, New!) - Sophia Bush is attached to star in a potential drama at the Eye billed as "a complex and timely spy thriller centered around the head of communications for the NSA (Bush), a charming operative who finds her loyalties torn between protecting the government's secrets and her own." David C. White and Patricia Riggen will write and direct the hour, which has a production commitment, with Riggen and 6th & Idaho's Matt Reeves executive producing and White as a co-executive producer. 20th Century Fox TV and CBS TV Studios will co-produce. White and Reeves previously set up the project at FOX last season, subsequently adding Riggen and Bush. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL PROJECT (Disney OTT) - Casting has begun on the proposed 10-episode TV series, which "follows a group of students at East High who stage a performance of High School Musical for their winter theater production, only to realize that as much drama happens offstage as onstage." Tim Federle and Oliver Goldstick are the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
VERONICA MARS (Hulu) - Series alums Diane Ruggiero-Wright and Dan Etheridge have signed onto the proposed eight-episode limited series at the streaming service as executive producers alongside Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell. Proudction is reportedly slated to begin in late October in Los Angeles and continue through March. (TVLine.com)
