Special Telecast of "The Voice" Wins the Hour Over FOX's "American Idol" in Adults 18-49
NBC spins the numbers for Wednesday, May 8.

Wednesday Primetime Results:

* From 8-9:01 p.m. ET, a special Wednesday telecast of "The Voice" Results Show (2.7/8 in 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall) won the hour over Fox's "American Idol" (2.5/8 from 8-9) and CBS's "Survivor" (2.5/8) in adults 18-49 and other key demos. The Wednesday "Voice" earned NBC's top rating in the time period since November 7, 2012 and biggest overall audience in the time period since November 28, 2012. From its first half-hour to its second, "The Voice" grew by 16 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.9 from a 2.5) and 14 percent or 1.1 million persons in total viewers (9.3 million vs. 8.2 million).

* At 9:01-10 p.m. ET, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1.9/5 in adults 18-49, 7.0 million viewers overall) jumped week to week by 12 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.9 from a 1.7) and 20 percent or 1.2 million persons in total viewers (6.965 million vs. 5.787 million). Note that "Law & Order: SVU" adds significant viewership through time-shifting, with its May 1 telecast growing by 32 percent going from these next-day "live plus same day" ratings in 18-49 (1.55) to "live plus three day" results (2.05).

* The 1.9 rating matches "Law & Order: SVU's" highest since January 9.

* At 10 p.m. ET, "Chicago Fire" (1.8/5 in adults 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall) grew week to week by 6 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.8 from a 1.7) and by 8 percent in total viewers (6.890 million vs. 6.354 million). From its first half-hour to its second, "Chicago Fire" grew by 6 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.9 rating from a 1.8), 4 percent in adults 25-54 (2.4 vs. 2.3) and 7 percent in total viewers (7.1 million vs. 6.7 million), while competing dramas on ABC and CBS declined half-hour to half-hour in all three categories. "Chicago Fire" is a heavily time-shifted series, with its May 1 telecast growing by 54 percent going from these next-day "live plus same day" ratings in 18-49 (1.66) to "live plus three day" results (2.55).

* "Chicago Fire" delivered its highest 18-49 rating since February 27 and its biggest overall audience since January 30.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Wednesday night:

* In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.6/7; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.5/7; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.9/5.

* In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 Wednesday results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 0.8/4; "Late Show," 0.5/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.7/3.

* From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET Wednesday night, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.3/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

* From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.4/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.2/4). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2).

* At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/4 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
