The Futon's Upfront Notes: Nbc
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- A round-up of the various developments from NBC's upfront presentation that may have gotten lost in the shuffle:

-- "The Apprentice's" future still remains up in the air. Despite being assured a seventh season back in June (read the story), the network's veteran reality competition series is now apparently in limbo. It's understood NBC Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly will meet with executive producers Donald Trump and Mark Burnett to discuss the show's fate in the coming months.

-- The Peacock has pulled the plug on its veteran drama "Crossing Jordan" after six seasons. Also not making the cut: 10 members of the Peacock's 2006-2007 season freshman class - comedies "20 Good Years," "Andy Barker, P.I." and "Thank God You're Here"; dramas "The Black Donnellys," "Kidnapped," "Raines" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip"; and alternative efforts "Grease: You're the One That I Want," "Identity" and "The Real Wedding Crashers." Said number is down from last season, which saw 19 series get the axe.

-- Extended seasons are in store for "Heroes," "The Office" and "My Name Is Earl." The network has ordered 25 episodes of "Earl" as well as 30 half-hours of "The Office," five of which will be paired together as one-hour specials. As for "Heroes," 24 episodes are on tap for the 2007-2008 season as well as six episodes of "Heroes: Origins," an "innovative new spin-off that each week will introduce a new character -- one of whom will be chosen by viewers through the 'Heroes' website on NBC.com to become a cast regular the following season." The project, which will have a separate writing and producing team from the parent series, will air either after "Heroes" concludes its second season or as a bridge between two of its broadcast pods.

-- It's not clear when NBC's window on the new season of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" will begin. The network announced on Sunday its cable sibling USA will take over the first-run broadcasts of the "Law & Order" spin-off this fall (read the story) however no timeframe was specified.

-- Producers of the midseason comedy "The I.T. Crowd" are currently recasting Jessica St. Clair's role. No specific reason was given about the change.

-- Additional pilot orders are expected in the near future. The new projects will be considered for possible midseason bows on the Peacock should its needs merit.
