By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

BREAKING IN (FOX) - Co-creator/director Seth Gordon has inked a two-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. The pact, financial details of which weren't released, will cover his duties on the show's upcoming second season as well as call for him to develop new series projects for the studio. He's also on board to direct Adam F. Goldberg's new pilot for the network and studio, an untitled half hour about growing up in the 1980s with a highly screwed up but loving family. (Deadline.com)

CHAMELEON (ABC, New!) - Feature writer Andrea Berloff ("World Trade Center") has snagged a script order from the Alphabet for a new drama about "a female undercover FBI agent who is a master of disguise." ABC Studios, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Dare to Pass are all behind the project, with Anthony Zuiker, Matthew Weinberg, JoAnn Alfano and Margaret Riley presumably executive producing alongside Berloff. (Deadline.com)

COMMON LAW (USA) - Sonya Walger ("FlashForward") has joined the cast of the upcoming drama, about two cops - Wes (Warren Kole), a methodical former lawyer with a passion for cars, gardening and his ex-wife, and Travis (Michael Ealy), a maverick ladies' man who served time in juvenile hall - who are sent to couples' therapy by their captain (Jack McGee). She'll play Dr. Elyse Ryan, their anointed counselor, taking over for Amy Acker, who played said role in the original pilot. Production is underway on the series in New Orleans for a 2012 premiere. (Deadline.com)

THE MAN UPSTAIRS (FOX, New!) - Screenwriter Jonathan Goldstein ("Horrible Bosses") has booked a new multi-camera comedy at the network about "a young woman who buys a house that is advertised as a deal of a lifetime, but there's one catch: the house comes along with the elderly man who owns it." Said half-hour is based on a 2006 segment from Ira Glass' "This American Life" radio program. Warner Bros. Television is behind the half-hour with Lin Pictures' Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz executive producing alongside Goldstein. Glass and "Life" producer Alissa Shipp will also serve as executive consultants. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED ALI LEROI PROJECT (Cartoon Network, New!) - Cameron Goodman ("90210") is set to star in a new comedy pilot at the cable channel about "a young rapper and his aspiring music manager sister as they deal with the demands of the music biz and their no-nonsense tutor." She'll play the aforementioned tutor in the half-hour, which comes from Ali Leroi and fellow "Are We There Yet?" executive producers Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez of Cube Vision Productions. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED ANNA FRICKE PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Anna Fricke ("Being Human") has sold a new drama to the Eye based on the life of self-described author, activist and concerned mom Robyn O'Brien. 20th Century Fox Television and the studio-based K/O Paper Products are behind the hour, which will revolve around "a congresswoman, wife and mother who fights for the underdog," with the latter's Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Heather Kadin executive producing alongside Fricke with O'Brien herself serving as a consultant. The Eye has given a script commitment to the project with a penalty attached. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED ANDY BOBROW PROJECT (FOX, New!) - Andy Bobrow ("Community") has booked a new single-camera comedy at the network about "the American Dream, parenthood and the (freakin') neighbors." Said half-hour comes from Sony Pictures Television and the studio-based Will Gluck, who will executive produce alongside Bobrow with Richie Schwartz serving as a co-executive producer. The two teamed this past development cycle for the fellow FOX pilot "Iceland," which didn't move forward to series. (THR.com)

UNTITLED DANE COOK PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Comedian Dane Cook has inked a development deal with the Peacock to topline a potential comedy for the network. He'll also executive produce the resulting half-hour via his SUperFInger Entertainment banner. The news marks Cook's third such TV effort: UPN was behind 2004's "Humor Me," which featured Cook as a standup comedian who loses it all and is forced to move in with his brother; while Sony Pictures Television shot 2005's "Cooked," about the comedian's quirky relationship with his friends, in house. Both were released on DVD under the moniker "Dane Cook: The Lost Pilots" in 2007. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED KERRY EHRIN PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Kerry Ehrin ("Friday Night Lights") has landed a new period drama at the Peacock about "an young, eccentric East Coast doctor of mental disorders who moves to a primitive Western town at the foot of the Colorado Rockies" in the 1880s. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner are also behind the Universal Television-based hour via their Hazy Mills banner. They'll executive produce alongside Ehrin. (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - "The Hangover's" Gillian Vigman will guest on ABC's "Suburgatory" as the wife of Alan Tudyk's Noah (EW.com); Morena Baccarin will reprise her role of professional matchmaker Erica Flynn on "The Mentalist" (TVLine.com); Debra Monk likewise will return as Louise O'Malley, the mother of the late George (T.R. Knight) on "Grey's Anatomy's" November 3 episode (TVLine.com); Jennifer Tilly will play the girlfriend of Chazz Palminteri's Shorty when his character returns to "Modern Family" later this season (TVLine.com); Dillon Casey has been upped to series regular on "Nikita" (Deadline.com); Andy Milder will recur as Ally's (Laura Marano) dad on Disney Channel's upcoming "Austin & Ally" (Deadline.com); Matt Barr has been cast as William "Cap" Hatfield, eldest son of Kevin Costner's "Devil" Anse Hatfield, in History's "Hatfields & McCoys" mini-series (Deadline.com); Melinda McGraw will turn up on "NCIS" as another one of Gibbs' (Mark Harmon) ex-wives (TVGuide.com); plus Lisa Lampanelli will guest on NBC's "Whitney" as a dog pound manager who evaluates Whitney (Whitney Cummings) to see if she and boyfriend Alex (Chris D'Elia) are fit to adopt a dog (THR.com).
