By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

GODLESS (Netflix; W/D: Scott Frank) - Jack O'Connell (Unbroken) is set to star in the streaming service's period drama, set in 1884 about Frank Griffin, "a menacing outlaw who is terrorizing the West as he hunts down Roy Goode, his son-like partner-turned-mortal enemy. While Roy hides at Alice Fletcher's ranch, Frank's chase leads him to the quiet town of La Belle - that is mysteriously made up of entirely women." O'Connell will play the aforementioned Roy in the project, "the injured outlaw on the run from his former boss who was orphaned at a young age and was taken in by Griffin who ultimately breaks up a robbery and takes off with the loot, splitting from his father figure after he no longer can stomach his behavior." (THR.com)

MAYANS MC (FX, New!) - The cable channel's proposed "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off has a title, a writer and a script commitment. Elgin James (Little Birds) will spearhead the project, billed as "a dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1% outlaw, this time reflected through a Latino lens." Kurt Sutter will likewise executive produce the hour, to be co-produced by ox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Pablo Schreiber has stepped into Starz's "American Gods" as Mad Sweeney, replacing the departing Sean Harris (Deadline.com); Jon Huertas has closed a deal to return to "Castle" for a potential ninth season (Deadline.com); Ruben Fleischer has signed on to direct and executive produce the first two episodes of Netflix's Drew Barrymore/Timothy Olyphant-led comedy "Santa Clarita Diet" (Deadline.com); and Ross Butler will recur on "Teen Wolf" as Nathan, "a sexy new member of the Beacon Hills lacrosse team who doesn't believe in the supernatural" (TheWrap.com).
