AMERICAN CRIME STORY (FX) - The cable channel has reportedly renewed the anthology series for a 10-episode third season to film virtually simultaneously with the second. Billed as "Versace/Cunanan," said installment will "examine the shocking July 1997 assassination of legendary designer Gianni Versace on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion by sociopath and serial killer Andrew Cunanan." Tom Rob Smith ("London Spy") is spearheading the script, which is based on Maureen Orth's book "Vulgar Favors." (Deadline.com)
BIG PACKAGE, THE (FOX, New!) - Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler ("Awkward") are developing a domestic take on Derren Litten's U.K. comedy "Benidorm," about "a blue-collar Boston family on the brink of financial disaster who takes a Mexican vacation they can't afford and seeks escape at a third-rate resort whose bargain "big package" also attracts a handful of other boisterous and crude guests." Endemol Shine Studios and 20th Century Fox Television are behind the single-camera project with Litten, Alberghini and Chessler executive producing executive producing alongside Tiger Aspect Productions' Ben Cavey and Wetdog Entertainment's Stephanie Davis. C.R.I.S.P.R. (NBC, New!) - Anthony Cipriano ("Bates Motel") has sold a potential futuristic drama to the Peacock about "a scientist with the CDC who is paired with an FBI agent to bring down a diabolical genius with a twisted God complex: her former boss." Universal Television is behind the hour, the title of which refers to "clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats." Nuyorican Productions' Jennifer Lopez and Benny Medina; Fascination Street's Drew Brown; and EGTV's Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas will executive produce alongside Cipriano with Priscilla Porianda as a co-executive producer. EMPIRE (FOX) - Gina Gershon is set to visit the series as Helene Von Wyeth, "the founder of her own fashion label, who partners with Empire for her annual fashion show. Described as imperious, demanding, tough and uncompromising, her one weak spot is her 8-year-old daughter, Regan." (Variety.com)
EQUITY (ABC, New!) - Regina Corrado ("The Strain") has set up a small screen take on the recent film, about Naomi Bishop, "a Wall Street banker who is navigating a world where big money and high-power reign, and women have yet to break the glass ceiling. With an aggressive prosecutor on her heels, and a strained relationship with an ambitious junior executive, Naomi is forced to reexamine the male dominated world in which she lives." TriStar Television is behind the hour, which has a penalty attached. Pascal Pictures' Amy Pascal and Rachel O'Connor and the movie's producers Alysia Reiner and Sarah Megan Thomas will likewise executive produce. (Deadline.com)
MATING (Showtime) - Morena Baccarin ("Homeland") is back in business with the pay channel as part of the comedy pilot. She'll play "an old friend of Jay's." No other specifics were given. (THR.com)
NEW GIRL (FOX) - Billy Gardell ("Mike & Molly") will drop by the series as "the contractor heading up the massive renovation on Schmidt and Cece's money-pit of a new home." (TVLine.com)
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS (Freeform) - Torrey DeVitto will reprise her role as Melissa Hastings during the show's final stretch of episodes. (THR.com)
SEVEN SECONDS (Netflix, New!) - Writer Veena Sud ("The Killing") and director Gavin O'Connor (The Accountant) are on track to land a 10-episode order from the streaming service for a new drama based on Yuri Bykov's 2013 Russian movie "The Major" in which "tensions run high between African American citizens and Caucasian cops in Jersey City, where a teenage African American boy is critically injured by a cop." Lawrence Bender, Kevin Brown and Alex Reznik are also set to executive produce for Fox 21 Television Studios. It's not clear if the film's producer Rock Films is attached to the series. SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT (Netflix) - Lyriq Bent ("Rookie Blue") has booked a role on the Spike Lee series: "the protective investment banker Jamie Overstreet, completing the trio of Nola Darling's (DeWanda Wise) lovers." (Deadline.com)
TOTALLY LAIME (CBS, New!) - Elizabeth Laime's popular podcast - about "a young couple who document their relationship through a podcast" - is being developed as a hybrid comedy at the Eye. Tami Sagher ("Inside Amy Schumer") will co-write the half-hour for CBS Television Studios with Thruline Entertainment's Willie Mercer and J.B. Roberts also serving as executive producers.
