BIGGEST STAR IN APPLETON, THE (Disney+, New!) - Kristin Chenoweth is set to star in a single-camera comedy for the streaming service about Carol Dannhauser, "a Wisconsin mom, wife and waitress who, while devoted to her family, finds her deepest satisfaction in small town stardom at the local community theater. Her status is threatened when Tara Hubley, a struggling New York chorus girl, moves back home with dreams of her own." Paul Rudnick is behind the project, with Chenoweth and Dan Jinks also executive producing for 20th Century Fox Television. (Deadline.com)
COUNCIL OF DADS (NBC) - Hilarie Burton will recur on the midseason drama as Margot, "a funny, intelligent foodie who is an executive manager at the Gladwell Restaurant Group and who becomes [Clive] Standen's love interest." (Deadline.com)
FLIGHT ATTENDANT, THE (HBO Max) - Nolan Gerard Funk is bound for the Kaley Cuoco-led thriller as Van, "a junior FBI agent who's an overzealous hothead and laser focused on Cuoco's title character, Cassie." (THR.com)
HR (CBS, New!) - Mike Gibbons has sold a multi-camera comedy to the Eye about "a group of employees in a small, quirky Human Resources department who are forced into the big leagues after a corporate takeover." Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor and TrillTV's Wendi Trilling are also executive producing for CBS Television Studios. (Deadline.com)
MAPLEWORTH MURDERS (Quibi) - The comedic murder-mystery series has tapped J.B. Smoove and Hayley Magnus as regulars while Fred Armisen, Tim Meadows, Maya Rudolph, Patton Oswalt, Jack McBrayer, D'Arcy Carden, Pam Murphy, Ben Warheit, Annie Mumolo, Ike Barinholtz, Mary Holland, James Anderson, Drew Tarver, Tina Fey, Chris Parnell, Andy Samberg, Wanda Sykes, Terry Crews, Nicole Byer and Jimmy Carlson will make appearances. MR. BLACK (FOX) - Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul have been tapped to pen the network's domestic take on Adam Zwar's Australian series. The comedy follows the acid-tongued Mr. Black, a man who has one dying wish: to break up his adult daughter and her boyfriend - whom he happens to live with. (Deadline.com)
NEXT TO YOU (CBS, New!) - Ben Joseph has landed a hybrid comedy at the Eye about "a 20-something guy who reconnects with his high school crush who once again is his "girl next door" - this time in NYC." SCHOOLED (ABC) - Co-executive producers Tom Hertz and Vanessa McCarthy have been elevated to showrunners of the recently extended comedy. They'll succeed Tim Doyle who is bowing out after joining the show in August. (THR.com)
SINGLE PARENTS (ABC) - Director Maggie Carey has signed a multi-year overall deal with sibling ABC Studios. The prolific helmer will develop new series projects for the studio. (THR.com)
UNITED STATES OF AL, THE (CBS) - Adhir Kalyan has scored the title role on the multi-camera comedy pilot, about "the friendship between Riley, a Marine combat veteran struggling to readjust to civilian life in Ohio, and Awalmir aka Al (Kalyan), the interpreter who served with his unit in Afghanistan and has just arrived to start a new life in America."
