BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (Peacock) - Michael Lesslie has been named showrunner of the revival series. He'll serve as an executive producer alongside Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton. Said Lesslie: "I am beyond excited to be taking on this iconic and inspirational show. As a lifelong devotee, I know that the possibilities of Battlestar Galactica's world are infinite and that each iteration has raised the bar for epic and intelligent sci-fi storytelling. The teams at Esmail Corp, UCP and Peacock are second to none, and I already know that we are going to honour Glen A Larson and Ronald D Moore's landmark series and break new boundaries with our own vision. It's a dream come true - one I just can't wait to share with fans, new and old alike. So say we all." (Deadline.com)
DEMIMONDE (HBO) - Kira Snyder, Rand Ravich and Far Shariat have been named co-showrunners and executive producers of J.J. Abrams's long-in-the-works drama. They replace original showrunner Bash Doran, who exited back in January. The news comes as Snyder has signed an overall deal with HBO, while Ravich and Shariat have renewed their overall pact. The latter duo had been working on a still-in-contention "Game of Thrones" spin-off as well as a series adaptation of Tom De Haven's cult classic novel "Freaks' Amour." No other details were given about said projects. Snyder, Ravich, Shariat, Abrams and Ben Stephenson are the executive producers of "Demimonde" with Rachel Rusch Rich as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
FUN (CBS) - The Eye has pulled the plug on the multi-camera comedy pilot, which was to star Becki Newton and Michael Urie as siblings who always encourage each other to have fun, in spite of the fact that the family business is a funeral home. The decision reportedly involves "the use of a force majeure contract provision allowing the network not to pay penalties." Michael Patrick King, Tracy Poust and Jon Kinnally were behind the Warner Bros. Television-based project, which was slated to film on April 1 before being shut down due to coronavirus concerns. (Deadline.com)
GOOD MARRIAGE, A (Amazon, New!) - Kimberly McCreight's novel is being developed for TV by Nicole Kidman and Per Saari's Blossom Films. In the project, "a woman's brutal murder in upscale Park Slope, Brooklyn reveals the perilous compromises some couples make - and the secrets they keep - in order to stay together, whatever the cost." David Farr will pen the script and executive produce alongside Kidman and Saari, presumably for Amazon Studios. (Variety.com)
LINCOLN LAWYER, THE (CBS) - The Eye has opted not to move forward with the legal drama, despite a massive series production commitment to A+E Studios and CBS Television Studios. Writer David E. Kelley, showrunner Ted Humphrey and director Adam Bernstein were spearheading the project, which was based on Michael Connelly's series of novels. Angus Sampson, Jazz Raycole and Kiele Sanchez had already been cast with Logan Marshall-Green reportedly set to play the title character, Mickey Haller. Production on the pilot - as well as all other CBS pilots - was then shut down on Friday, March 13 due to coronavirus concerns. A writers' room was since opened and Humphrey and his team submitted a second script prior to CBS's decision. It's not clear if force majeure will be invoked to avoid the series penalty and/or if the studios plan to shop the project elsewhere. (Deadline.com, 5/2)
MANDALORIAN, THE (Disney+) - Directors Robert Rodriguez and Peyton Reed took to social media with the news they directed installments of the show's second season. (@Rodriguez, @MrPeytonReed)
MORNING SHOW, THE (Apple TV+) - Executive producer Kerry Ehrin has signed a multi-year overall deal extension with the company. The pact covers her duties as showrunner of the series as well as any future development. (Deadline.com)
