ABC took a solid second place on Sunday night to Fox with its coverage of the deciding Game 7 of for the "MLB American League Championship Series" (Boston-Cleveland) in Total Viewers (12.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.9/12). ABC dominated the night across the key women demographics: W18-34 (5.3/15), W18-49 (6.5/16) and W25-54 (7.1/16).

Despite stiff competition on the evening, ABC delivered its best results on the night since season premiere Sunday (9/30/07) in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC aired Sunday's Top 3 TV series, with "Desperate Housewives," "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and "Brothers & Sisters," respectively.

"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)

Opposite stiff competition, "AFV" grew throughout its telecast, surging by 2.3 million viewers (7.2 million to 9.5 million) and by 43% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 to 3.0/9) from its first half-hour to its second half-hour.

"Desperate Housewives" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Sunday's No. 1 series for the fourth consecutive week in viewers and young adults, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" ranked a No. 1 during the 9 o'clock hour against baseball among Adults 18-49 (7.1/16). "Brothers & Sisters" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" defeated its drama competition during Sunday's 10 o'clock hour, CBS' "Shark," by 1.0 million viewers (11.9 million vs. 10.9 million) and by 100% in Adults 18-49 (4.8/11 vs. 2.4/6). The sophomore ABC drama won the hour across each of the key women demographics: W18-34 (5.8/14), W18-49 (6.8/16) and W25-54 (7.2/16).

 "Brothers & Sisters" marked season-high results among Adults 18-34 (4.1/10) and Women 18-34 (5.8/14).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 9% during the same point in 2006 up to 20% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
