ABC's "Motive" is Up to 6-Week Highs and ABC's Repeat Comedies Beat Fox's Original SYTYCD

ABC Wednesday Comedy Block (8-10pm - 3.4 million and 1.0/4 in AD18-49): From 8-10pm, ABC's 2-hour repeat comedy block beat Fox's original So You Think You Can Dance by 11% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.9/3), leading for the 2nd week in a row. In addition from 9-10pm, ABC's back-to-back repeats of Modern Family beat CBS' first-run Extant special by 20% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 1.0/3).

Motive (10-11pm - 3.8 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49): In the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's Motive grew week to week in Total Viewers (+3% - 3.8 million vs. 3.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (+14% - 0.8/3 vs. 0.7/2) and was up for the 3rd straight telecast among Adults 25-54 (+9% - 1.2/3 vs. 1.1/3). The ABC drama hit 6-week highs in viewers and young adults (tie), while equaling a 9-week high in Adults 25-54 - since 7/9/14 and 6/18/14. Among Adults 18-49 in the hour, Motive ran neck-and-neck with NBC's America's Got Talent-led Taxi Brooklyn (0.9/3) and CBS' Extant (0.9/3). Motive tied Taxi Brooklyn in Adults 25-54.

ABC Wednesday Comedy Block (8:00-10:00 p.m. - 3.4 million and 1.0/4 in AD18-49):

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's 2-hour repeat comedy block outdelivered Fox's original "So You Think You Can Dance" by 11% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.9/3), leading for the 2nd week in a row. In addition from 9:00-10:00 p.m., back-to-back repeats of ABC's "Modern Family" beat CBS' first-run "Extant" special by 20% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 1.0/3).

· "Motive" improved its hour for ABC over original programming on the same night last year ("Lookout" on 8/21/13 = 2.9 million, 0.7/2 and 0.9/3) in Total Viewers (+31%), Adults 18-49 (+14%) and Adults 25-54 (+33%).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 49% currently, from 48% at the same point in 2013. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
