Quick Take for Monday, October 15, 2007 (National Live + Same Day Program Ratings)

ABC Leads its Fourth Consecutive Monday in Total Viewers

ABC is Up Week to Week and Delivers Significant Increases Over the Same Monday a Year Ago

ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" is Monday's Most-Watched TV Show For the Fourth Week in a Row

ABC's "Samantha Who?" Opens as the Season's No. 1 New Comedy in Viewers and Adults 18-49, the Most-Watched Comedy Telecast on Any Net in 7 Months

ABC's "The Bachelor" Beats NBC's "Journeyman" During the 10 O'clock Hour, Hitting Season-High Deliveries in Adults 25-54, Women 18-49 and Women 25-54

Monday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

With the Net's lineup of "Dancing with the Stars," the series premiere of "Samantha Who?" and "The Bachelor," ABC was the most-watched TV network on Monday for the fourth week running, outperforming second-place CBS by 3.3 million viewers (15.2 million vs. 11.9 million). In addition, ABC led the night in Adults 18-49 (4.3/11).

ABC posted week-to-week gains in viewers and young adults (14.6 million & 4.1/10 on 10/8/06), as well as pacing well ahead of the corresponding year-ago Monday (8.0 million & 3.3/8 on 10/16/06).

"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-9:32 p.m.)

ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" was the most-watched show (19.4 million) on Monday night for the fourth straight week. In addition, the broad skewing unscripted dance competition also ranked as the No. 1 TV program of the evening in Women 18-49 (7.1/17) and Women 25-54 (8.9/20).

"Samantha Who?" (9:32-10:03 p.m.)

The series debut of ABC's "Samantha Who?" stood as TV's No. 1 new comedy premiere of the season in both Total Viewers (14.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.5/10), as well as the most-watched new series premiere overall. Furthermore, "Samantha Who?" qualifies as the most-watched comedy telecast on any network on any night in 7 months (since 3/28/07 with Fox's telecast of "Til Death"). The comedy led its half-hour among Total Viewers and across each of the key Women demographics: Women 18-34 (5.2/12), Women 18-49 (6.9/15) and Women 25-54 (7.9/16).

"Samantha Who?" built on its lead-in by 11% among Women 18-34 (5.2/12 vs. 4.7/12), ranking as the No. 1 program of the night in the demo.

"The Bachelor" (10:03-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "The Bachelor" outdelivered NBC's "Journeyman" in the hour by 2.1 million viewers (8.9 million vs. 6.8 million) and by 26% in Adults 18-49 (3.4/9 vs. 2.7/7). The ABC unscripted series ranked No. 1 in its time slot among its core audience of Women 18-34 (4.3/11-tie).

"The Bachelor" hit season highs in Adults 25-54 (3.9/9-tie), Women 18-49 (5.3/13) and Women 25-54 (6.0/14).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 9% at the same point in 2006 up to 20% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
