ABC took second place during the week (w/o 10/15/07) to an MLB Baseball Playoff-driven Fox across the key adult demographics (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54). In Adults 18-49, ABC (3.5/10) beat out third-place NBC by 13% (3.1/9) and fourth-place CBS by 17% (3.0/8). The Network won Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights in the key young adult sales demographic. For the fourth week in a row, ABC dominated the primetime landscape across all key women demographics, maintaining wide advantages over its closest competitors: W18-34 +42% (3.7/11 vs. 2.6/8 NBC), W18-49 +31% (4.7/12 vs. 3.6/9 CBS) and W25-54 +20% (5.5/13 vs. 4.6/11 CBS).

Rankings: ABC placed 8 of the weeks Top 20 TV shows among Adults 18-49 (more than any other net), including the Top 2 programs, as "Greys Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" tied as the weeks highest-rated TV show: "Greys Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" tied at No. 1, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" No. 7, "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 12, "Brothers & Sisters" No. 14, "Samantha Who?" No. 16, "DWTS the Results-TU" No. 18 and "Private Practice" No. 19. The Net aired 5 of the Top 10 most-watched TV programs during the week: "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 2, "Desperate Housewives" No. 4, "Greys Anatomy" No. 5, "DWTS the Results-TU" No. 7 and "Samantha Who?" No. 10. The Monday debut of ABCs "Samantha Who?" stood as the No. 1 new show during the week and is also the seasons No. 1 new comedy in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. In fact "Samantha Who" opened with the largest audience for any new series debut this fall and qualifies as the most-watched comedy telecast on all of television in nearly 7 months since 3/28/07.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 9% during the same point in 2006 up to 20% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
