WEEK No. 29:

Rankings: During the week of April 6, 2009, with its Thursday and Sunday dramas in repeat ("Grey's"/"Private Practice"/"Housewives") or preempted ("Brothers & Sisters"), ABC aired 2 of the Top 10 highest-rated TV programs in Adults 18-49: "Dancing with the Stars" No. 5 and "Lost" No. 9. In addition the Network placed 3 of the Top 15 shows in Total Viewers, as "DWTS" finished out the week as the 3rd-most-watched television show overall, behind the 2 editions of "American Idol": "Dancing with the Stars" No. 3, "DWTS Results" No. 8 and "Surviving Suburbia" No. 15. The week's most-watched comedy and TV's biggest opener for a new comedy series in over 1 1/2 years,

ABC's Monday debut of "Surviving Suburbia" also registered as the most-watched series premiere, on a week where both NBC ("Parks and Recreation"/"Southland") and CBS ("Harper's Island") debuted new series.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to over 30% currently, from 23% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Monday

ABC's Monday lineup attracted 15.0 million viewers and a 3.6 rating 9 share in Adults 18-49, standing as the most-watched Network on the night for the 6th consecutive week. "Lost" (9:00-10:02 p.m.)

Jumping from its lead-in opposite Fox's "American Idol" in the 9 o'clock hour, ABC's "Lost" beat out its original drama competition in the slot by solid margins among Adults 18-49. In the time slot, ABC's "Lost" (3.8/10) defeated CBS' "Criminal Minds" by 15% (3.3/8) and NBC's season finale of "Life" by 192% (1.3/3).
