"Dancing with the Stars: Results Show" Opener Is Up Over Last Season/"Body of Proof" Wins at 10pm with Season Highs

Opposite all-original competition, ABC earned #2 to CBS on Tuesday, outdrawing NBC with the premiere of The Voice by 3.2 million viewers and Fox by 5.7 million viewers. Boosting ABC up to a strong second in the 9 o'clock hour, the 16th season opener of DWTS: The Results Show grew by double digits from its Season 15 premiere in Total Viewers (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+10%). ABC's dancing results show dominated original comedies in the hour among Adults 18-49 on both Fox (+21% over New Girl/Mindy Project) and NBC (+35% over The Voice-led Go On/New Normal). In addition, it finished #1 in its slot with key Women (W18-49/W25-54) and Teens 12-17, while ranking as Tuesday's most-watched unscripted show, with an 1.1 million viewer advantage over NBC's The Voice. Olympic Gold medalist Dorothy Hamill was the first celebrity to leave the competition in Season 16, removing herself on the advice of her spine surgeon. In Adults 18-49, it was the top non-finale delivery for any The Results Show telecast since May 8, 2012.

Posting new season highs for the 2nd straight week, ABC's Body of Proof ranked #1 in the 10 o'clock hour over CBS' Golden Boy for the first time in Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54. Up week to week in viewers (+14%) and young adults (+13%) to season-best numbers, Body of Proof grew its overall audience for the 4th straight week to deliver ABC's most-watched scripted telecast in the hour since April 10, 2012.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 47% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
