Two Months Into the Summer Season, TNT's Drama Series Are Chalking Up Some Strong Competitive Claims

Two months into the summer season, TNT's drama series are chalking up some strong competitive claims:

- Basic cable's Top 2 summer series among total viewers: Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes

- Five of basic cable's Top 10 summer dramas among total viewers: Rizzoli & Isles (#1), Major Crimes (#2), Falling Skies, Perception, King & Maxwell

- Basic cable's #1 summer drama with adults 18-49: Falling Skies

- Two of basic cable's Top 5 summer dramas with adults 18-49: Falling Skies (#1), Rizzoli & Isles

- Basic cable's #1 summer series with adults 25-54: Falling Skies

- Three of Basic Cable's Top 10 summer dramas with adults 25-54: Falling Skies (#1), Rizzoli & Isles (#2), Major Crimes

All four July episodes of Rizzoli & Isles ranked among basic cable's Top 10 programs for the month of July. Leading the pack was the July 2 episode, which was basic cable's #1 scripted program for the month. Meanwhile last week's episode of Rizzoli & Isles has grown to 7.4 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery (+3% vs. the prior week), including 2.4 million adults 25-54 and 1.9 million adults 18-49.

Last week's episode of Major Crimes placed among basic cable's Top 10 telecasts for the month. So far, the episode has garnered 7.1 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery (+8% vs. the prior week), including 2.1 million adults 25-54 (+11%) and 1.5 million adults 18-49 (+10%).

TNT's originals continue to do extremely well in time-shifted viewing. New highlights include the July 8 episode of Major Crimes, which topped out at 6.8 million viewers and 2.4 million adults 25-54 in Live + 7 delivery. The July 9 episode of Rizzoli & Isles finished with 8.1 million viewers and 2.8 million adults 25-54 in Live + 7. The July 10 episode of Franklin & Bash garnered 3.3 million viewers and 1.4 million adults 25-54 in Live + 7. And the July 14 episode of Falling Skies scored a final tally of 5.2 million viewers and 2.7 million adults 25-54 in Live + 7.

In other ratings stories for the final week of July 2013, Monday's episode of King & Maxwell has drawn more than 4.7 million viewers in Live + 3 (+9% vs. the prior week), including 1.3 million adults 25-54 (+11%) and 894,000 adults 18-49 (+5%). Tuesday's episode of Perception has attracted 4.9 million viewers in Live + 3 (+7% vs. the prior week), with 1.8 million adults 25-54 (+11%) and 1.4 million adults 18-49 (+7%). Wednesday's episode of Franklin & Bash has brought in 3 million viewers in Live + 3, including 1.3 million adults 25-54 (+2% vs. the prior week) and 1.2 million adults 18-49 (+2%). And Sunday's episode of Falling Skies grabbed 3.1 million viewers in Live + Same Day, with 1.4 million adults 25-54 and 1.3 million adults 18-49.

Adult Swim

Adult Swim claimed #1 in Primetime (broadcast definition) Delivery of adults 18-34 among all basic cable networks, three of the last four months in 2013. Compared to July 2012, Primetime delivery increased with adults 18-24 by 15%, adults 18-34 by 9%, adults 18-49 by 7%, men 18-24 by 15%, men 18-34 by 8% and men 18-49 by 4%.

Across July 2013 and for the last six months straight, Adult Swim's Total Day Delivery average once again ranked #1 among adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 on basic cable. Compared to July 2012, Total day delivery increased across the board - adults 18-24 by 13%, adults 18-34 by 10%, adults 18-49 by 8%, men 18-24 by 12%, men 18-34 by 11% and men 18-49 by 6%.

New episodes of Adult Swim's original series The Venture Brothers (Sunday, 12 a.m.) ranked #1 in the timeslot among adults 18-24 and grew by double-digits across the board - ranging between 16% and 36% - vs. the same time period last year.

New episodes of the acquired series, Bob's Burgers (Sunday, 11 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among adults 18-24 & 18-34 and men 18-24 & 18-34, while the Monday episode premiere (10 p.m.) increased delivery among all key adults and men - ranging between 1% and 13% - vs. the same time period last year.

Saturday's new episodes of Bleach (12 a.m.), Naruto (12:30 a.m.), and One Piece (1 a.m.) each ranked #1 in their respective time periods among men 18-24 & 18-34. All new episodes within the TOONAMI block increased targeted delivery by mostly double-digit gains across adults & men vs. the same time period last year.

Throughout July, Adult Swim programming accounted for 27 of the top 50 telecasts on basic cable for the month among adults 18-34, and 36 of the top 50 telecasts among men 18-34, both more than any other network.

TBS

TBS won the month as basic cable's #1 network in primetime delivery of adults 18-49. The network is also leading that demo for the year-to-date.

TBS claimed two of basic cable's Top 5 sitcoms among adults 18-49 in July, with the TBS original series Sullivan & Son and TBS's acquired hit The Big Bang Theory making the list. Meanwhile, this past Thursday night's episode of the hit TBS comedy Sullivan & Son garnered 2.2 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery, with 1.1 million adults 18-49 and 539,000 adults 18-34.

TBS's new hidden-camera series Deal With It averaged 2.2 million viewers in Live + 3 for this past Wednesday's episode. In the demos, Deal With It averaged 1.1 million adults 18-49 and 625,000 adults 18-34, growing +11% in the latter demo compared to the show's July 17 premiere.

Cartoon Network

Across July 2013, Cartoon Network ranked as television's #1 network - both broadcast & cable - for Early Prime (7-9 p.m.) delivery of boys 6-11.

Cartoon Network also scored as July's #1 television destination for boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 among all TV on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday Nights (7-9 p.m.).

Original animated series Adventure Time (Mondays, 7:30 p.m.), and Regular Show (Mondays, 8 p.m.) both ranked #1 in their respective time periods among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14, while original animated series MAD (Monday, 8:30 p.m.) ranked #1 among boys 2-11/6-11.

Compared to the same time period last year, Tuesday nights overall increased delivery among kids 2-11 & 6-11 and boys 2-11 & 6-11, with new episode premieres of Teen Titans GO! (Tuesdays, 7:30 p.m.) ranking #1 in the timeslot among all boy demos and increasing delivery among boys 2-11 by +4%, and boys 6-11 by +7%. Similarly, new episodes of The Looney Tunes Show (Tuesday, 8 p.m.) also ranked #1 in its time period throughout July among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14.

Wednesday night's new episode premieres of the multiple-award-winning The Amazing World of Gumball (7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in the timeslot among all targeted boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14.

Saturday Morning new episode premieres of Pokémon BW: Adventures in Unova (8:30 a.m.) and Beyblade: Metal Fury (8 a.m.) each ranked #1 in their respective time periods among boys 9-14, while new episode premieres of Beware the Batman (10 a.m.) earned double-digit delivery increases among kids 9-14 (+13%) and boys 9-14 (+30%) vs. the same time period last year.

truTV

truTV's breakout hit Hardcore Pawn (Tuesdays at 9 p.m.) had a great month attracting young males. The show ranked as one of basic cable's Top 5 programs in its time period with men 18-34 for the month of July.

Lizard Lick Towing (Monday at 10 p.m.) ranked as one of basic cable's Top 5 programs in its timeslot in delivery of adults 18-49 and men 18-49 for the month of July. Last week, the show scored 2.2 million viewers (+20% vs. the prior week), with 1.1 million adults 18-49 (+15%) and 541,00 men 18-49 (+14%) and ranked among basic cable's Top 5 programs in all three categories.

truTV's South Beach Tow (Wednesday at 10 p.m.) scored 1.5 million viewers last week, with 716,000 adults 18-49 and 345,000 men 18-49, all slightly ahead of the averages for the second half of the season. Compared to the same time period last year, the show is driving +11% growth among adults 18-34, while the median age for the timeslot has dropped a remarkable six years to 38.

Storage Hunters (Sunday at 9 p.m.) averaged 1.3 million viewers last week, including 423,0000 adults 18-49 and 272,000 men 18-49, all ahead of its season-to-date averages. The show also scored its best audience delivery so far this season among men 18-34 (145,000), delivering +48% growth in the demo compared to the same time period last year.
