Week No. 3

During the week October 9, 2017, ABC delivered 8 of TV's Top 20 entertainment programs in Adults 18-49: "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 5, "The Good Doctor" - No. 6, "Modern Family" - No. 8, "The Goldbergs" - No. 11, "The Middle" and "American Housewife" tied at No. 13, while "DWTS" and "black-ish" tied at No. 17. For the week and season to date in viewers and young adults, ABC's "The Good Doctor" is TV's No. 1 new drama and the top 10 o'clock series.

Monday

Featuring "DWTS" and "The Good Doctor" (both the season's No. 1 freshman drama and TV's top 10 o'clock show), ABC repeated as the most watched broadcaster on Monday night (9.7 million) and ran No. 2 with Adults 18-49 (1.5/5).

"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-10:01 p.m. - 9.2 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):

From 8:00-10:01 p.m., ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" took second to NBC's "The Voice" in Total Viewers (9.2 million) among the broadcasters. In addition, "DWTS" beat out Fox's dramas in the 2-hour time period ("Lucifer"/"The Gifted") by 5.6 million viewers (9.2 million vs. 3.6 million) and by 18% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.1/4). "Dancing" edged up week to week in viewers (+1% - 9.2 million vs. 9.1 million).

"The Good Doctor" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 10.7 million and 2.0/7 in AD18-49):

Jumping over its "DWTS" lead-in for the 3rd straight week in the 10 o'clock hour (+16%/+54%), ABC's "The Good Doctor" dominated its NBC and CBS drama competition to rank as the No. 1 series hour for the 3rd time in as many telecasts, doubling the combined performances of NBC's ("The Brave") and CBS' ("Scorpion") dramas in Total Viewers (+8% - 10.7 million vs. 5.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+5% - 2.0/7 vs. 1.9/7). ABC's "The Good Doctor" is the season's No. 1 new drama as well as the top 10:00 p.m. TV series in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. The new show is delivering triple-digit time period increases year to year for ABC on Monday at 10:00 p.m.

Tuesday

Each of ABC's Tuesday series paced within 2-3 tenths of the prior week's premieres and the returning comedies performed at or above where they closed out last season in their May finales.

L+7 ratings for the debuts of "The Mayor" and "Kevin (Probably) Saves the World": "The Mayor" (6.0 million and 1.8 rating) improved over ABC's most recent comedy debut in the half-hour ("Imaginary Mary" on 4/4/17) by 33% in Total Viewers and 50% with Adults 18-49, while also growing over the Net's year-ago comedy premiere in the slot ("The Real O'Neals" on 10/11/16) by 25% in Viewers and 13% among young adults. "Kevin (Probably) Saves the World" opened as ABC's most watched series debut (6.3 million) and highest-rated with Adults 18-49 (1.6 rating) in Tuesday's 10 p.m. hour in over 6-1/2 years - since "Body of Proof" on 3/29/11.

Wednesday

Holding exactly even week to week, ABC ranked No. 2 on Wednesday night in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5-tied w/CBS) to Fox with "Empire," beating NBC by 18% (1.1/4).

· At 9:00 p.m., ABC's "Modern Family" was the top series in half-hour for the 3rd week running in Adults 18-49 (1.8/7), beating out Fox's "Empire"-driven "Star" by 20% (1.5/6), CBS' "SEAL Team" by 50% (1.2/4) and NBC's "L&O: SVU" by 50% (1.2/4).

· Delivering its best-yet lead-in retention out of "Modern Family" in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour (78%), ABC's "American Housewife" ranked as the No. 1 series in its slot for the 2nd week in a row with Adults 18-49 (1.4/5-tied w/"Star"), beating the second half-hours of NBC's "L&O: SVU" by 8% (1.3/5) and CBS' "SEAL Team" by 17% (1.2/4).

· In the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Designated Survivor" remained even week to week with Live + Same Day Adults 18-49 (0.9/4) and, prior to the inclusion of L3 and L7 TV Playback, is just 3-tenths behind the drama leader in the hour.

"Designated Survivor" Is Premiere Week's No. 1 Gainer in Live + 7 Day Adults 18-49:

One of only 2 shows to more than double its L+SD ratings during season premiere week, ABC's "Designated Survivor" shot up by +127% in L+7 to lead the week, joining ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder" (+109%) as the only other broadcast series to accomplish the feat.

Thursday

For the 3rd straight week this season against CBS' NFL broadcast on the night, TGIT made ABC Thursday's No. 1 entertainment network with Adults 18-49 (1.4/5) by 17% over a "Will & Grace"-driven NBC (1.2/5) and by 56% over Fox's drama lineup ("Gotham"/"The Orville" = 0.9/3). The Network also delivered the primetime entertainment lead with Total Viewers (5.7 million).

· After tying in the preliminary numbers the previous Thursday, ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" straight out beat NBC's "Will & Grace" as Thursday's No. 1 entertainment show in Adults 18-49, outdelivering the declining NBC comedy by an increasing margin of 17% (2.1/8 vs. 1.8/6).

· From 9:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's "Scandal" held within 2-tenths of its week-earlier season premiere in Adults 18-49 and beat its drama competition in the hour by 20% (1.2/4 vs. 1.0/4 for Fox's "The Orville"). In fact, in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, "Scandal" moved up to take the entertainment lead over both NBC and Fox.

· In the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder" grew 11% week to week in L+SD Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.9/4). Shooting up +109% in the Live + 7 Day ratings for Premiere Week, "HTGAWM" stood as 1 of only 2 broadcasts to more than double its L+SD Adult 18-49 number during the opening week of the season, joining ABC's "Designated Survivor" with a +127% lift.

Friday

· At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "Once Upon a Time" retained 100% of its week-ago premiere in L+SD Adults 18-49 (0.7/3) and ran in a near tie as the No. 1 series in the hour with CBS' "MacGyver" (0.8/4) and Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" (0.8/4).

· At 9:00 p.m., ABC's "Inhumans" ran within 1-tenth of the prior week in Adults 18-49 rating and held its share (0.6/3 vs. 0.7/3).

ABC's Friday Dramas Lead in Live + 3 Day Playback Lift:

Based on Live + 3 Day ratings for the prior Friday (10/6/17), ABC's "Once Upon a Time" and "Marvel's Inhumans" tied as Friday's No. 1 percentage gainer among Adults 18-49 on the broadcast networks, with a +71% jump over their L+SD ratings.

Saturday

With college football coverage (Utah at USC), ABC was the No. 1 broadcaster on Saturday with Adults 18-49, nearly tripling Fox with boxing coverage (+167% - 0.8/3 vs. 0.3/2). ABC also claimed the evening's No. 1 broadcast program among Adults 18-49 with "Saturday Night Football" (0.8/4).

Sunday

"Ten Days in the Valley" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 2.6 million and 0.4/2 in AD18-49):

Continuing to deliver strong gains in TV Playback, ABC's "Ten Days in the Valley" held even week to week during the 10 o'clock hour in L+SD Adults 18-49 (0.4/2). In last week's Live + 3 Day ratings, the new ABC drama was Sunday's biggest broadcast gainer in Adults 18-49, spiking by +50% over its L+SD delivery. And in the just released Live + 7 Day ratings for premiere week, the debut of "Ten Days in the Valley" shot up +80% in Adults 18-49, also representing the biggest increase for any broadcast show on premiere Sunday over L+SD.
