A SHIPWRECK ON THE HIGH SEAS FORCES A MOTHER TO MAKE AN UNTHINKABLE CHOICE IN "48 HOURS: LIVE TO TELL: BLACK WAVE" SATURDAY, JULY 27 AT 8:00 PM, ET/PT

A family's planned adventure to sail their 55-foot catamaran around the globe turns into a nightmare when a catastrophic accident leaves a mother forced to make an unthinkable choice - save her kids or risk it all to save her husband - in an updated edition of "48 HOURS: Live to Tell: Black Wave" to be broadcast July 27, 2013 (8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

In 2005, Jean and John Silverwood and their four children were heading toward Australia as part of a dream journey on their vessel, "The Emerald Jane," when it struck an underwater reef. In a matter of moments, their boat began to sink. When they tried to turn around, a massive wave broke the vessel's 2,500-pound mast, sending it crashing down on John. His leg was crushed and he was pinned to the deck.

With John bleeding profusely and water pounding the boat, Jean faced a harrowing decision: abandon ship and save the children, or risk all of their lives to free her husband.

Jean Silverwood explains what happened next in this updated rebroadcast of "Live to Tell: Black Wave," which is part of a short-run series from the producers of 48 HOURS delivering first-hand accounts of extraordinary people who refuse to give up when facing death.

48 HOURS: "Live to Tell: Black Wave" is produced by Chuck Stevenson and Chris Ritzen. Gregory F. McLaughlin, Doreen Schechter, Joan Adelman are the producer-editors.
