The Holiday Classic Starring Jim Carrey Will Air in HDTV with 5.1-Channel Surround Sound

"Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas," the contemporary classic holiday comedy starring Jim Carrey, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski and Molly Shannon, will air in HDTV with 5.1-channel surround sound as the "ABC Tuesday Movie of the Week," DECEMBER 24 (8:30-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. Based on the classic children's book by the legendary Dr. Seuss, the live action "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" takes viewers inside a snowflake to Whoville, the magical land of the Whos. But high above this holiday-loving town resides the Grinch (Jim Carrey), a nasty creature with a heart three sizes too small, who hates Christmas and plots to steal it from the Whos. Will a greedy Mayor Augustus Maywho (Jeffrey Tambor) or the seductive Martha May Whovier (Christine Baranski) foil his plans? Or will it be the loving little Cindy Lous Who (Taylor Momsen) who will teach him the true meaning of Christmas?

"Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" was directed by Ron Howard ("A Beautiful Mind") with the screenplay by Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman. Mr. Howard and Brian Grazer were producers and Todd Hallowell served as executive producer. The film is from Imagine Entertainment and MCA/Universal Pictures.

"Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format, with 5.1-channel surround sound.
