THE SEASON ONE FINALE OF UNIVISION NETWORK'S BOUNDARY-BREAKING ORIGINAL SERIES 'EL CHAPO' AIRS ON SUNDAY, MAY 21 BEGINNING AT 9PM ET/PT

Digital After-Show, "El Chapo Ilimitado," Makes Its Network Television Debut Immediately Following the Season One Finale with Series Stars Marco de la O, Humberto Busto, Juliette Paradau, Juan Carlos Olivas and Producer Daniel Posada

The season one finale of Univision's ripped-from-the-headlines drama "El Chapo" airs on Sunday, May 21 at 9pm ET/PT. The boundary-breaking series explores the life story of one of the world's most notorious criminals over a span of three decades - from 1985, when he was a low level member of the Guadalajara Cartel, to his rise to power and his ultimate downfall. Immediately following the season one finale, "El Chapo Ilimitado," ("El Chapo Unlimited") makes its linear debut on Univision Network with series stars Marco de la O, Humberto Busto, Juliette Paradau and Juan Carlos Olivas and producer Daniel Posada, joined by the show's hosts Lourdes Stephen and Carlos Caldern at 10pm ET/PT. The digital after-show sponsored by AT&T has proven tremendously popular with fans this season, generating more than 1.5 million views on Facebook.

On the season one finale (9PM), in "The Paddies," the padded cells where prisoners are kept in solitary confinement, El Chapo endures his own personal hell. Insomnia, the frigid conditions, and the physical and psychological abuse push the limits of his sanity. Cut off from the rest of the world, he escapes into the only place that he can: his thoughts. He remembers how, at the age of 16, he met the town's boss, Pedro Avilés, and began growing his first poppies. Dazzled by Avilés' luxurious world of money, women, and power, El Chapo decides to join his ranks, though not before facing his father, a violent alcoholic who was convinced that his son would never amount to anything. Now, locked up in Almoloya, he refuses to let his will be broken and instead grows stronger than ever, absolutely determined to achieve what he's always dreamed of: being the baddest big shot of them all, the most powerful drug lord in the world, the Capo of Capos that the Mexican government and media has already portrayed him as, the man he swore he'd become on that distant day when he challenged his father.

"El Chapo," currently in production, will air in three separate cycles and marks the first co-production between Story House Entertainment and Netflix. The series currently airs in Spanish with English-language Closed Captioning available. Versions with English-subtitles will be available when the series premieres globally on Netflix (date to be announced).

The series stars Marco de la O (Tanto Amor) as Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmn; Humberto Busto (Amores Perros) as Attorney Conrado Sol, aka "Don Sol" (an important political party figure); Juan Carlos Olivas (180) as El Gero (Joaqun's main partner); Alejandro Aguilar ("Rosario Tijeras") as Too (Joaqun's main assassin); Tete Espinoza ("Wenses y Lala") as Cho (Joaqun's lover); Rodrigo Abed (Reevolucin) as Amado (Mexican capo); Luis Rbago (Principio y Fin) as General Blanco (National Security Advisor); Cristina Michaus (El Tigre de Santa Julia) as Doa Esperanza (Joaqun's mother); Valentina Acosta ("Seora Acero") as Alejandra (Joaqun's first wife); and Juliette Pardau ("De Todas Maneras Rosa") as Graciela (Joaqun's second wife). 'El Chapo' is created by Silvana Aguirre Zegarra and Carlos Contreras and produced by Daniel Posada. The first season is directed by Jose Manuel Cravioto and Ernesto Contreras.

Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmn, who has been accused by law enforcement of running the "largest drug trafficking organization in the world," has long evaded authorities. After being captured by Mexican authorities in February 2014, Guzman escaped from a maximum security Mexican prison in July 2015 by crawling through an opening in the shower of his cell block that led to a mile-long tunnel to freedom. He was recaptured nearly six months later and extradited to the U.S. earlier this year.
