COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, THE (Spike TV, New!) - Joshua D. Maurer and Alixandre Witlin's City Entertainment is developing a contemporary take on Alexandre Dumas's revenge classic, billed as a "high-octane action and political twist." No other auspices were given for the project, which may be a mini or limited series. Said duo will executive produce. (Deadline.com)


MARILYN (Lifetime, New!) - Writer Stephen Kronish and director Laurie Collyer are behind a new biopic of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, based on the book "The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe" by J. Randy Taraborrelli. Jonathan Koch, Steven Michaels, Keri Selig and Kronish are the executive producers on the project, which comes from Asylum Entertainment. (Deadline.com)


WESTWORLD (HBO/WBTV; W: Lisa Joy & Jonathan Nolan; D: Jonathan Nolan) - James Marsden, Eddie Rouse, Demetrius Grosse, Kyle Bornheimer, Currie Graham, Lena Georgas, Steven Ogg and Timothy Lee DePriest have all signed onto the drama pilot, based on Michael Crichton's 1973 sci-fi movie set at an amusement park. Marsden will play Teddy Flood, "a mysterious new arrival to a small frontier town who quickly proves both his charm, and his talent, with a revolver"; with Rouse as Kissy (short for Kisecawchuck), "an American Indian who deals cards, and contraband, from the town saloon, making him an expert in games both on and off the card table." Details on the other roles were not given. Anthony Hopkinsm Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Angela Sarafyan and Simon Quarterman also star.
