$1 (CBSAA) - Nike Kadri, Joshua Bitton, Hamilton Clancy and Ashlie Atkinson will round out the cast of the upcoming mystery/thriller, set in a small rust belt town in post-recession America, where a one-dollar bill changing hands connects a group of characters involved in a shocking multiple murder. Kadri will play Rook, "who's new to the Police Department and eager to prove she's tough and clever to the chief, the squad, and herself"; with Bitton as Chewy, "a police officer born and raised in Pittsburgh who has seen it all and is filled with snark"; Clancy as Tom, "a well-meaning and a good cop, but there is a reason he's never been promoted"; and Atkinson as Terri Mitchell, "one of the few women who work at the steel mill." (Deadline.com)
LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, A (Amazon, New!) - Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson are set to team for a small screen take on Garry Marshall's 1992 movie, billed as a "half-hour comedy infusing the warmth, humor and DNA of the classic film, while taking a contemporary spin on the stories of the women surrounding the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The show will begin with the formation of the league in 1943 and follows the Rockford Peaches, season to season as they struggle to keep the team alive through close games, injuries, late night bar crawls, sexual awakenings, not crying and road trips across a rapidly changing United States." Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios are behind the project, which is expected to open a writers room and deliver scripts before the streaming service makes a decision. Field Trip Productions' Hailey Wierengo will also executive produce. (THR.com)
MAN OF THE HOUSE (ABC) - Jenna Ortega ("Stuck in the Middle") has joined the cast of the comedy pilot, about a teenage star quarterback who finds himself unexpectedly the only male in a house full of females when his recently-divorced mother moves in with her recently-divorced sister and their daughters. She'll play Elena, "Charli's (Leslie Bibb) fifteen-year-old daughter, a beautiful and mean spirited only child, who doesn't adjust well to living with her cousins." Said casting comes as Disney Channel is pulling the plug on the Ortega-led "Stuck in the Middle" after three seasons and 59 episodes. (Deadline.com)
STAND, THE (CBSAA, New!) - Josh Boone (New Mutants) is reportedly attached to direct a 10-episode limited series at the streaming service based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. No other specifics were given. (Tracking-Board.com)
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY (CBSAA) - Executive producer Alex Kurtzman has been tapped to direct the show's second season premiere, which begins production next month in Toronto. (Variety.com)
TRUE DETECTIVE (HBO) - Director Jeremy Saulnier has bowed out of the show's third season after two episodes, citing scheduling conflicts. Daniel Sackheim and creator Nic Pizzolatto will direct the six remaining episodes as well as executive produce. (Variety.com)
