ALIENIST, THE (TNT) - Lara Pulver will recur on the follow-up installment, "The Angel of Darkness," as Karen, "who meets the gang at John's (Luke Evans) engagement party. She is an alienist and an expert in her field. She and Laszlo (Daniel Brühl) form a special professional connection." (Deadline.com)
ANNA K (HBO Max, New!) - The streaming service has given a put pilot commitment to a "modern-day, empowering, multicultural retelling" of Leo Tolstoy's classic Anna Karenina. The project, based on Jenny Lee's upcoming YA novel, "follows a Korean-American "it" girl caught between her picture-perfect, family-approved boyfriend and the guy who might just be her one true love, along with her high-flying cast of friends and family." Lee herself is set to pen the script and executive produce alongside SB Projects' Scooter Braun, James Shin and Scott Manson; and Creative Engine Entertainment's Drew Comins for Entertainment One. (Deadline.com)
CURSED (Netflix) - Bella Dayne is the latest addition to the Arthurian legend series as Red Spear, "described to us as a regal and ruthless viking captain, with an eye for treasure. Loyal to no one, the Red Spear and her crew raid villages along the coast of Britain until a Fey stowaway boards her ship and entangles their fates." (Deadline.com)
EVENT HORIZON (Amazon, New!) - Director Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong) is spearheading a TV take on the 1997 sci-fi horror film, about "a spaceship that disappeared after testing an experimental gravity drive capable of creating an artificial black hole that was meant to allow the ship to travel to distant points in the galaxy." Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Jeremy Platt will also executive produce for Paramount Television and Amazon Studios. No writer was indicated. (Variety.com)
HEART OF LIFE (ABC) - April Blair has joined original writer Ben Queen to retool the drama pilot, which didn't make the cut for the network's schedule in May. (Deadline.com)
NANA (ABC) - The Katey Sagal-led comedy pilot is formally dead despite previous indications about redeveloping the project. (Deadline.com)
OA, THE (Netflix) - The streaming service has canceled the drama series after two seasons. "We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerizing chapters of The OA, and are grateful to Brit and Zal for sharing their audacious vision and for realizing it through their incredible artistry," said Cindy Holland, VP of Original Content, Netflix. "We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions." (Deadline.com)
ONE NIGHT FOREVER (Quibi, New!) - Jonathan Abrahams has sold a potential series to the short-form video service about an "an overwhelmed astrophysics major meets a mysterious romantic who claims to be from another planet. Together they spend one fateful night on a mission to fix her thesis, explore the meaning of love, and just maybe unlock the secret of the universe." Shelley Zimmerman, Rebecca Glashow, and Brin Lukens will also executive produce for AwesomenessTV. (Deadline.com)
PROPOSAL, THE (ABC) - The Alphabet has passed on a second season for the romance competition series, which launched last summer. (TVLine.com)
PURGE, THE (USA) - Rochelle Aytes and Danika Yarosh have both scored recurring roles on the new season as Michelle Moore, "a woman who must rebuild her world after her peaceful existence is shattered when an assassin breaks into her and her husband Marcus' (Derek Luke) home on Purge night"; and Kelen Stewart, "a college student who tries to help her boyfriend Ben (Joel Allen) process the horrors he witnessed on Purge night," respectively. (Deadline.com)
TOMMY (CBS) - Thomas Sadoski has been tapped for the Edie Falco-led midseason drama. He'll play "the charming, seductive and morally complex second-term mayor of Los Angeles, who appoints Tommy (Falco) as the first female police chief in the city's history, only to wonder what he's gotten himself into." He succeeds David Fierro from the pilot in a recasting. (Deadline.com)
TRIANGLE (ABC) - The long-in-the-works pilot will be wrap editing this weekend, after which the network will ultimately decide its fate. The publication previously indicated ABC had passed. (Deadline.com)
TRUTH SEEKERS (Amazon, New!) - The company has signed onto the Nick Frost/Simon Pegg-led comedy-horror series. Frost plays Gus, "one half of a ghost-hunting, duo who team up to uncover and film paranormal sightings across the U.K. in the series. They stake out haunted churches, underground bunkers, and abandoned hospitals using an array of homemade ghost-detecting gizmos and share their adventures on an online channel." Pegg wills also star as Dave. Production is set to begin next month on eight half-hour episodes with Pegg and Frost co-writing with Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz. Said quartet will executive produce alongside Stolen Picture's Miles Ketley and director Jim Field Smith while Richard Webb is producing. (Variety.com)
UNTITLED MARVEL PROJECT (ABC, New!) - The Alphabet is said to be in talks for a new series from Marvel. The project would be "something brand new, mostly" and "would fit in with its strategy of female-focused superheroes." No other details of course were given. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED NYPD BLUE SPIN-OFF PROJECT (ABC) - The much-ballyhooed revival is now reportedly dead at the network following the release of its cast members. "There are conversations about continuing it but possibly in a different iteration," ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told the publication. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED WALKING DEAD SPIN-OFF PROJECT (AMC) - Nico Tortorella is the latest bound for the franchise's third series as Felix, "described as an honorable man of his word who isn't afraid to fight for others' safety and acceptance." Said role won't interfere with Tortorella's duties on TV Land's "Younger." (Deadline.com)
