UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. � July 7, 2009 � "America's Got Talent" has delivered the top ratings for the week of June 29-July 5 and the highest adult 18-49 and total-viewer results for any non-sports telecast on any broadcast network so far this summer, pacing NBC to a tie for #2 in adults 18-49 for the week, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research. NBC averaged a 1.4 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 5.4 million viewers overall for the week.

NBC ranked #2 for the week outright in total viewers, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and other key categories and tied for #1 in men 18-49 and women 18-49.

"America's Got Talent" once again demonstrated its broad appeal, as last week's Tuesday and Wednesday editions were the #1 and #2-ranked primetime programs of the week respectively in total viewers, adults 25-54 and teens 12-17. In adults 18-49, Tuesday's "Talent" was #1 for the week and the Wednesday edition was #3.

"America's Got Talent" claimed three top-10 spots last week, as a Tuesday 8 p.m. ET encore tied for #8 in adults 18-49 and ranked #9 in total viewers.

Also ranking in the top 20 programs for the week in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49 were Monday's "Dateline NBC" (#10) and Tuesday's encore "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (#16, tied).

Primetime averages for the week of June 29-July 5 in adults 18-49 were Fox (1.5/5), NBC (1.4/5), CBS (1.4/5), Univision (1.3/5), ABC (1.1/4), Telemundo (0.5/2) and CW (0.3/1). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (6.9 million), NBC (5.4 million), Fox (4.2 million), ABC (3.7 million), Univision (3.3 million), Telemundo (1.1 million) and CW (0.9 million).

Through the first 41 weeks of the 2008-09 season, NBC is the only one of the major broadcast networks to decrease its median age versus the prior season. NBC is the "second youngest" of the major broadcast networks, with a median age of 48.0 years (versus 48.7 years at this point last season), 3.0 years "older" than Fox (45.0 years). By comparison, ABC's median age this season is 49.3 and CBS's median age is 54.3.

Season to date, NBC is running within 0.8 of a rating point of first place in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49, versus a deficit of 1.3 points at this time last season.

NBC highlights for the week of June 29-July 5:

* On Monday, the special "Living with Michael Jackson" edition of "Dateline NBC" won its time period in adults 18-49, up 57 percent in the demo versus the prior week's Monday telecast. "Dateline" was also #1 or tied for #1 in most key demographics, including adults 18-34, men 18-49, women 18-49 and adults 25-54.

* On Tuesday, week two of "America's Got Talent" scored the highest 18-49 rating of the summer to date for a non-sports telecast on the broadcast networks, and delivered the largest overall viewership of the summer to date for a non-sports telecast in all of television � broadcast or cable.

* In its second week, Tuesday's "America's Got Talent" posted dramatic gains in both 18-49 and total viewers versus its premiere of one week earlier, while also generating impressive increases versus its year-ago performance.

* Tuesday's "America's Got Talent" was the #1 program of the night on the broadcast networks in every significant measure -- adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49, 25-54, teens 12-17, kids 2-11 and total viewers -- pacing NBC to a nightly win in adults 18-49 and all other key demographic measures.

* Also on Tuesday, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" at 8 p.m. ranked #1 in the time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and most other key demos. In head-to-head competition from 8-9 p.m. ET, the "Talent" rebroadcast topped a first-run telecast of ABC's "Superstars" by 77 percent in adults 18-49 and by 98 percent or more than 4.0 million persons in total viewers.

* With 11.4 million viewers overall, "America's Got Talent" was the #1 program on television Wednesday night in total viewers, increasing by 10 percent or more than 1.0 million persons in total viewers versus its prior-week Wednesday premiere.

* The Wednesday edition of "America's Got Talent" finished within one share of the time-period lead in adults 18-49 and won the hour in total viewers, adults and men 25-54, men 18-49, teens 12-17 and kids 2-11.

* On Friday, "Dateline NBC" was the #1 telecast of the night in adults 18-49 for a third week in a row, leading NBC to its fifth consecutive Friday victory in 18-49.

* On Saturday, "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" and an encore of "Law & Order: SVU" tied as the night's #1 primetime telecast in adults 18-49 and both won their time periods in 18-49 and other key categories. From its first half-hour to its second, the "Macy's" special soared by 86 percent in 18-49 rating and by 3.3 million persons in total viewers.

* On Sunday, the concluding hour of "The Bourne Supremacy" finished #1 from 10-11 p.m. ET in adults 18-49 and beat the combined ABC-CBS competition in adults 18-34 and other key demos for that hour.

Ratings reflect "live plus same day" data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of "live plus seven day" data except for the two most recent weeks, which are "live plus same day."

On Monday June 29 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order" averaged a 1.1 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49 and 5.0 million viewers overall. At 9 p.m., an episode of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 18 percent in adults 18-49 and by 13 percent in total viewers.

Monday at 10 p.m. ET, the special "Living with Michael Jackson" edition of "Dateline NBC" (2.2/6 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) won the hour in adults 18-49, up 57 percent in the demo versus the prior week's Monday "Dateline" (2.2 vs. 1.4). "Dateline" was also #1 or tied for #1 in most key demographics, including adults and men 18-34, men and women 18-49 and adults and women 25-54.

On Tuesday, June 30 from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" (2.3/8 in 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in the time period in most key demos, including adults 18-49 and 18-34. In head-to-head competition from 8-9 p.m., the "Talent" rebroadcast topped a first-run telecast of ABC's "Superstars" by 77 percent in adults 18-49 (2.3 vs. a 1.3 for "Superstars" in that hour) and by 98 percent or more than 4.0 million persons in total viewers (8.2 million vs. 4.1 million).

Tuesday from 9-10 p.m. ET, week two of "America's Got Talent" (3.7/11 share in adults 18-49, 13.1 million viewers overall) scored the highest 18-49 rating of the summer to date for a non-sports telecast on the broadcast networks, and delivered the largest overall viewership of the summer to date for a non-sports telecast in all of television � broadcast or cable. Excluding Olympics, "Talent" delivered NBC's biggest overall viewership in this slot in nearly a year (since July 29, 2008).

"America's Got Talent" was the #1 program of the night on the broadcast networks in every significant measure -- adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49, 25-54, teens 12-17, kids 2-11 and total viewers -- pacing NBC to a nightly win in adults 18-49 and all other key demographic measures.

Versus the prior Tuesday's two-hour premiere, week two of "Talent" was up 16 percent in adults 18-49 (3.7/11 vs. a 3.2/10 from 9-11 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 23) and up 15 percent or more than 1.6 million persons in total viewers (13.1 million vs. 11.5 million). Versus the prior Tuesday's "Talent" premiere in the same 9-10 p.m. hour, the June 30 "Talent" was up 28 percent in adults 18-49 (3.7 vs. 2.9) and 25 percent or 2.6 million persons in total viewers (13.1 million vs. 10.5 million).

Week two of "America's Got Talent" also posted gains versus last year's "Talent" week two, increasing 19 percent in 18-49 rating (3.7/11 vs. a 3.1/9 from 9-11 p.m. on June 24, 2008) and 12 percent or 1.4 million persons in total viewers (13.1 million vs. 11.7 million).

"America's Got Talent" grew from its first half-hour to its second by 14 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 4.0/12 from a 3.5/11) and by 14 percent or more than 1.7 million persons in total viewers (to 14.0 million from 12.3 million).

Tuesday from 10-11 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order; Special Victims Unit" (1.9/6 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in adults 18-49, finishing within 0.1 of a rating point of the time-period lead, and was #1 among the broadcast networks in adults 18-34, women 18-34 and men 18-34 (tied).

On Wednesday July 1 from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" (1.4/5 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall) increased by 15 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.5 from a 1.3) and 15 percent in total viewers (to 6.4 million from 5.6 million) from its first to its second half-hour.

Wednesday from 9-10 p.m. ET, "America's Got Talent" (2.9/9 in 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall) finished within one share of the time-period lead in adults 18-49 and won the hour in total viewers, adults and men 25-54, men 18-49, teens 12-17 and kids 2-11.

"America's Got Talent" was the #1 primetime program Wednesday night in total viewers. The Wednesday edition of "Talent" increased by 10 percent or more than 1.0 million persons in total viewers versus the prior week's Wednesday premiere (11.4 million vs. 10.4 million on June 24).

From its first half-hour to its second, "America's Got Talent" increased by 19 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 3.2/10 from a 2.7/8) and by 16 percent or 1.7 million persons in total viewers (to 12.3 million from 10.6 million), to rank #1 in the 9:30-10 p.m. half-hour in adults 18-49 and most other key measures over such first-run competition as Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" and ABC's "I Survived a Japanese Game Show."

"America's Got Talent" posted dramatic growth in the Wednesday 9 p.m. time period versus NBC's pre-"Talent" summer average in the slot -- including gains of 71 percent in adults 18-49 (2.9 vs. 1.7), 75 percent in adults 18-34 (2.1 vs. 1.2), 76 percent in adults 25-54 (3.7 vs. 2.1) and 88 percent in total viewers (11.4 million vs. 6.1 million).

At 10 p.m., ET, "The Philanthropist" (1.4/4 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the broadcast networks in adults 18-49 (tied), adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures.

On Thursday, July 2 from 8-8:30 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "30 Rock" delivered a 1.0/4 in 18-49 and 3.0 million viewers overall. "30 Rock" ranked #1 in the time-period among the broadcast networks in adults 18-34 and all key adult-male demos.

Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "The Office" from 8:30-9 p.m. ET averaged a 1.0/4 in 18-49 and 2.5 million viewers overall. "The Office" won the time slot among the broadcast networks in adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49.

Thursday at 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "The Office" delivered a 1.2/4 in 18-49 and 2.8 million viewers overall, ranking #1 among the broadcast networks in the time period among men 18-34.

Thursday at 9:31 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "30 Rock" averaged a 1.1/4 in 18-49 and 2.6 million viewers overall.

Thursday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Listener" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the broadcast networks in adults 18-49, total viewers and virtually all other key ratings categories.

On Friday, July 3 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Chopping Block" (0.6/3 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall) matched the 18-49 rating of its prior telecast on June 19 and improved in total viewers by 15 percent (2.3 million vs. 2.0 million).

Friday from 9-11 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" (1.3/5 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall) was the night's #1 telecast in 18-49. It's the third Friday in a row that "Dateline" has reported the #1 results for any broadcast network in 18-49. From its first half-hour to its fourth, the July 3 "Dateline" increased its 18-49 rating by 55 percent (to a 1.7 rating from a 1.1) and its overall viewership by 56 percent or 2.2 million persons (to 6.2 million from 4.0 million).

NBC won Friday night in adults 18-49. It's the fifth week in a row NBC has won Friday in 18-49.

On Saturday, July 4 at 8 p.m. ET, "Kings" averaged a 0.2/1 in 18-49 and 1.2 million viewers overall.

Saturday from 9-10 p.m. ET, "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" (1.0/5 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall) tied NBC's 10 p.m. encore of "Law & Order: SVU" as the #1 primetime telecast of the night in adults 18-49. "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" won the time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54, all key adult-female demos and total viewers. From its first half-hour to its second, the "Macy's" special soared in 18-49 rating by 86 percent (to a 1.3/7 from a 0.7/4) and in total viewers by 94 percent or more than 3.3 million persons overall (to 6.9 million from 3.5 million).

During its concluding half-hour from 9:30-10 p.m. ET, "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" climbed to a 1.3/7 in 18-49, to generate the top-rated half-hour of the night for any primetime telecast on any broadcast network.

Saturday from 10-11 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1.0/5 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) tied NBC's 9 p.m. telecast of "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" as the #1 primetime telecast of the night in adults 18-49. "Law & Order: SVU" ranked #1 in its time period in adults 18-49 and other key demographics ahead of the original competition of CBS's "Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular" and ABC's "Eli Stone."

On Sunday, July 5 from 7-8 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" averaged a 1.0/4 in 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, "Dateline" increased in 18-49 rating by 22 percent (to a 1.1 from a 0.9). "Dateline" tied for #2 in the time period in adults 18-49 and finished #2 outright in adults 25-54 and total viewers.

Sunday from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Merlin" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) matched its 18-49 rating for both telecasts of the prior week and improved on its total-viewer averages for both those June 28 episodes. The July 5 "Merlin" ranked #2 in its time period in adults 18-49 and total viewers.

Sunday from 9-11 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of the 2004 motion picture "The Bourne Supremacy" delivered a 1.2/4 in 18-49 and 4.1 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its fourth, "The Bourne Supremacy" increased its 18-49 rating by 44 percent (to a 1.3 from a 0.9) and its overall viewership by 21 percent (to 4.3 million from 3.5 million).

For its concluding hour from 10-11 p.m. ET, "The Bourne Supremacy" was #1 among the broadcast networks in adults 18-49 and other key demos, beating the combined ABC-CBS competition among adults 18-34, women 18-34 and all key adult-male demos.
