Thursday's Broadcast Ratings: ABC Dominates with Game 1 of the NBA Finals

Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (6/5/14):

ABC (10.657 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 4.2, #1) overshadowed the competition on Thursday with its mix of "Jimmy Kimmel: Game Night" (6.354 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.1, #3), "Kia NBA Countdown" (7.143 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.8, #2) and "NBA Finals, Game 1" (12.612 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 5.1, #1).

CBS (5.708 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T2) then claimed the number two spot with its all-repeat lineup of "The Big Bang Theory" (8.836 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.0, #4), "Mom" (6.207 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.3, #7), "Two and a Half Men" (5.427 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T8), "The Millers" (4.585 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T10) and "Elementary" (4.596 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.7, #14).

Next up was NBC (3.795 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T2) and its combination of "Hollywood Game Night" (4.113 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T8), "Undateable" (3.124 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T10), another "Undateable" (2.923 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T10) and "Last Comic Standing" (4.248 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.4, #6).

Meanwhile, FOX (3.785 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T2) served up originals from "Hell's Kitchen" (4.594 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.6, #5) and "Gang Related" (2.976 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.8, #13).

And finally, The CW (0.690 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the evening with second runs of "The Vampire Diaries" (0.776 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #15) and "The Originals" (0.604 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.2, #16). In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Diaries" delivered a 0.4 rating at 8:00/7:00c and "Originals" a 0.2 rating at 9:00/8:00c.

In late-night metered market ratings (via NBC's press release):

· In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 2.6/6,; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.0/5; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 2.7/8, delayed by an NBA overrun.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.0/5,; "Late Show," 0.3/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.3/7, delayed by an NBA overrun.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline," delayed by an NBA overrun, averaged a 1.8/6 in metered-market households and a 0.9/6 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.3/4 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.0/4). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly," averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (6/6/13):

ABC (10.427 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 4.0, #1) was of course the network to beat on Thursday with its mix of "Jimmy Kimmel: Game Night" (6.509 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 2.1, #T4), "Kia NBA Countdown" (6.892 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.5, #2) and the "NBA Finals, Game 1" (12.291 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 4.9, #1).

FOX (3.955 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.6, #2) then was a distant second place with originals from "Hell's Kitchen" (5.126 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 2.1, #T4) and "Does Someone Have to Go?" (2.785 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.2, #7).

Next up was CBS (6.641 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #3) with repeats of "The Big Bang Theory" (8.997 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.2, #3), "Two and a Half Men" (7.055 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #6), "Person of Interest" (6.541 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #8) and "Elementary" (5.356 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.0, #9).

Meanwhile, NBC (2.335 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.7, #4) offered up new episodes of "Save Me" (3.050 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T11), a second "Save Me" (2.678 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T11) plus repeats of "The Office" (1.877 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.6, #14) and "Parks & Recreation" (1.762 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T11) and a new "Hannibal" (2.322 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.9, #10).

And finally, repeats of "The Vampire Diaries" (0.836 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #15) and "Beauty and the Beast" (0.819 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.2, #16) closed out the night over on The CW (0.828 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5).
