BARBARA WALTERS INTERVIEWS MARY KAY LETOURNEAU
IN HER FIRST INTERVIEW SINCE BEING RELEASED FROM JAIL,
ON "20/20," SEPTEMBER 24, ON ABC
In an exclusive interview with Barbara Walters, Mary Kay Letourneau, the woman who was recently released from prison after serving seven and a half years for child rape for her relationship with Vili Fualaau, says that she wants to marry her former student, who was 12 when their liaison began. "We've always planned that, and it hasn't changed," she tells Walters. But the timing of the wedding "has not been decided." And does she plan on having more children with Fualaau? "Well, I'm healthy enough," but denies being pregnant now. During the in-depth interview, the former Seattle-area sixth-grade teacher explains why she had an affair with a student, how the relationship began and why she continued to see him even after the authorities forbade it. She also tells Walters that she hopes to launch a new career , possibly in legal research, and that she wants to help Fualaau become an artist. "20/20" airs on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 (10:00 - 11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
