"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" TEAM HELPS MAKE A DREAM
COME TRUE FOR BAKERSFIELD WIDOW AND HER CHILDREN
Country Superstar Randy Travis Performs Music from
His Latest CD at a Fundraiser for the Elcano Family
"Elcano Family" - Glen and Jennifer Elcano were living their dream. They used to spend practically 24 hours a day together running and operating their small family farm in Bakersfield, California. He would harvest feed and hay while she drove the bale truck behind him. Then, one fateful day, Glen was driving home from making a delivery to another local farm when a car pulled out in front of him. He was killed instantly in the accident.
Now Jennifer and her two young children are barely managing the farm on their own. She and the kids have hardly had time to mourn Glen's death, much less to keep the farm running or make repairs to their small 100-year-old dilapidated farmhouse. This episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" airs SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 21 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.
At a scholarship fundraiser for the Elcano children, country superstar Randy Travis performed songs from his latest CD to a Bakersfield community that wanted to contribute something to this deserving family. Later on at the "reveal," he helped welcome the family to their brand new home. Travis' new single, "Four Walls," is coincidentally about a simpler time on the farm, as he sings that "Four walls, three words, two hearts and one love" were all that anyone needed. At press time, over $60,000 had been raised.
While the design team, contractors and over 150 workers upgraded the Elcano's farm and transformed their 1000-square-foot house into a Western delight in just seven days, Jennifer and her children -- Michael, 11 and six-year-old Ashley -- went on vacation to Disney World.
The designers for this episode are team leader and carpenter Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo (carpentry/nuts & bolts), Tracy Hutson (shopping/style), Constance Ramos (building/planning) and Preston Sharp (exteriors/big ideas).
"Elcano Family" was directed by Patrick Higgins.
