EXCLUSIVE TELEVISION INTERVIEW WITH DOCTOR DEAN FAIELLO, WHO IS ACCUSED OF KILLING NEW YORK CITY FINANCIAL ANALYST MARIA CRUZ -- SATURDAY, NOV. 13 ON 48 HOURS MYSTERY

Maria Cruz, a successful, 35-year-old New York City financial analyst, disappeared on the afternoon of April 13, 2003. For 10 months, police were unable to find Cruz, but the trail of evidence finally pointed to a man named Dean Faiello, who posed as a doctor and is believed to have treated Cruz for a mouth infection the day she went missing. In February 2004, acting on a tip from Faiello's former lover, Greg Bach, authorities found Cruz's body stuffed in a suitcase and buried in the cement in the garage of Faiello's former home in Newark, N. J. Just one month later -- 11 months after Maria Cruz was reported missing -- Dean Faiello was under arrest for Cruzs murder in Costa Rica. In an exclusive television interview, correspondent Harold Dow talks with Faiello, who speaks out for the first time since being charged with murder. Faiello remains in a Costa Rican prison as he awaits extradition proceedings. 48 HOURS MYSTERY: Vanished will be broadcast Saturday, Nov. 13 (10:0011:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

FAIELLO: The truth is Im very unhappy with my physical health at this point. Its no secret Im HIV-positive. I have been here for six months without any treatment, any medical treatment of my HIV condition. I think Ive lost 11 kilos, which is about 22 pounds.

---

FAIELLO: I like [Costa Rica] and Im doing everything that I can with my attorney and in my legal powers to stay here in this countryI wish to spend the rest of my life here in Costa Rica.

---

DOW: Did you kill Maria Cruz?

FAIELLO: I have no comment. I am innocent of the charges presented against me. Ive been falsely accused by the U.S.

DOW: You really feel youve been falsely accused by the United States?

FAIELLO: Absolutely.

---

Dow asks Faiello about Cruzs body being found in his garage.

FAIELLO: I have no statement about anything thats happened in my house.

DOW: What would you want to say to Maria Cruzs family, if you are innocent?

FAIELLO: I cant answer that.

DOW: Are you concerned about these charges?

FAIELLO: My statement is, remains, I am innocent of the charges.

Dow also asks Faiello about posing as a doctor in New York.

DOW: Were you pretending to be a doctor in New York?

FAIELLO: I have no comment on that.
