Elton John Donates a Piano to Music-Loving Family; Homebuilder KB Home Contributes to Family's New Life in Many Ways

"Broadbent Family" -- A courageous mother has helped three of her adopted children and many others face AIDS with hope, teaching them that life is here for the living. Her recent bout with cancer has only enforced that belief. In an episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," airing SUNDAY, DECEMBER 12 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network, the Broadbent family from North Las Vegas will get back some of the love and happiness that they have provided to so many others over the years through their tireless work providing HIV/AIDS awareness.

Patricia Broadbent, a longtime advocate for children and former social worker, has given birth to one child and adopted six others in her lifetime, three of whom still live at home -- Hydeia, 20, Shana, 17, and Trisha, 15. All three of these girls contracted AIDS from their birth mothers and are now living with the virus.

When the disease took center stage in both her life and the world's in the late 1980s, Patricia became an advocate for AIDS awareness and acceptance. Since she was six years old, Hydeia, who never viewed her AIDS status as a death sentence, has also rallied to bring understanding and assistance to those touched by HIV/AIDS. Today she is an internationally recognized AIDS activist, whose most current project is the STAR Program, which provides outreach to national AIDS advocacy organizations and youth groups by using hip-hop music and its stars to raise people's consciousness. Mother and daughter have also co-written a book, You Get Past The Tears: A Memoir of Love and Survival.

Recently Patricia was diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently undergoing successful chemotherapy treatments. She came to realize, as she faces her own mortality, that her small house is just not suitable for her daughters to continue to thrive in, should her own life end early. When the team from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" learned of her plight, it was decided that Patricia, who has spent the better part of her life teaching and educating the public about unconditional love and acceptance of everyone, should have a house she will feel proud of to pass on to her beloved children.

During the makeover, some of the EM:HE designers paid a visit to Elton John. He was so touched by the Broadbents' story that he donated a baby grand piano to Hydeia and her sisters, who are avid music lovers.

While the EM:HE design team, contractors, hundreds of workers and KB Home, one of the top five homebuilders in the U.S., demolished the Broadbents' 1450 square-foot cinderblock house, Patricia and her three daughters went on vacation to Beaches in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

In just seven days, a new and radically different house will be built that will accommodate living in a desert, along with several unique surprises. In addition, KB Home landscaped all of the homes on the Broadbents' street and cul-de-sac.
