LUCY LAWLESS STARS IN "LOCUSTS,"
A NEW TELEVISION MOVIE TO BE BROADCAST ON
SUNDAY, APRIL 24 ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK
LOCUSTS, a new television movie starring Lucy Lawless ("Xena Warrior Princess," "Tarzan"), will be broadcast as the "CBS Sunday Movie," Sunday, April 24 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. In the disaster drama, a deadly breed of bioengineered locusts create a new and unimaginable threat to the United States by forming multiple swarms covering thousands of square miles and destroying everything in their path.
Dr. Maddy Rierdon (Lawless), a USDA voracious insect expert, is hoping to work on her struggling marriage when a locust outbreak erupts on both coasts of the United States. After she is called upon to assess the situation, Maddy discovers that the locust swarms are a product of a colleague's experiment, and are in fact bioengineered super locusts that can reproduce at a rate 10 times greater than a typical one. They are also three times longer than an ordinary locust, can travel approximately 300 miles a day and could be capable of devouring an entire continent.
The entire population is in a panic as the swarms multiply and attack areas from coast-to-coast. As food supply, livestock and even human lives are threatened by these seemingly unstoppable creatures, the president orders the formation of a special task force to work with Maddy and her team. She addresses the task force, but at this point no one can come up with an answer to eradicate these insects without taking human lives in the process. As the country faces a modern-day plague unlike anything they have ever seen, the government is in a race against the clock to put an end to this devastating situation.
