SUPER BOWL'S GREATEST COMMERCIALS: TOP 40 COUNTDOWN, a new entertainment special hosted by Jim Nantz, Lead Play-by-Play Announcer of THE NFL ON CBS, will be broadcast Saturday, Feb. 4 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Throughout the special, celebrities including radio talk show host and comedian Adam Carolla, CBS Sports personalities from THE NFL TODAY Greg Gumbel, Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason and Shannon Sharpe, actor Chevy Chase, actor Neil Patrick Harris (CBS's "How I Met Your Mother"), actor Kevin Nealon and Mighty Rasta, who played "office linebacker" Terry Tate in the popular Reebok Super Bowl commercial, will share their humorous and sometimes irreverent observations on some of the countdown's commercials.
The special, which will originate from Ford Field in Detroit, Mich., site of Super Bowl XL, will count down the Top 40 Super Bowl commercials of all time, with the number one commercial, selected by viewers, to be revealed live at the conclusion of the broadcast.
Beginning Friday, Jan. 13 and continuing through the broadcast of the show on the east coast on Saturday, Feb. 4, viewers can log onto www.cbs.com to view the top three commercials in the history of the Super Bowl, as determined by the CBS Sports panel, and vote for their favorite. The spots will also be posted for viewing at www.cbssportsline.com. The winner, as determined by the online voting, will be revealed at the end of the hour.
Following are the three finalists for the top honor:
* Apple's legendary "1984" spot, directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ridley Scott, which was broadcast exclusively during the 1984 contest between the Los Angeles Raiders and Washington Redskins
* Reebok's "Terry Tate" campaign, which debuted during the 2003 game and featured a hulking "office linebacker" who blitzed and sacked hapless office workers
* Coca-Cola's "Mean Joe Greene" ad, which made its Super Bowl debut in 1980 and featured the imposing Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle softening his gruff exterior after a young fan offered him a cold bottle of Coke following a particularly tough day on the gridiron
Jim Nantz, who has covered virtually every sport for the CBS Television Network since joining it in 1985, moved up to assume the lead play-by-play job for THE NFL ON CBS for the 2004 season joining lead analyst Phil Simms on the Network's number one NFL announce team. For six years, he anchored the Network's NFL pre-game studio show, THE NFL TODAY.

He was voted 1998's and 2005's National Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Nantz recently was named Sports Business Journal's November 2005 readers' survey as "favorite TV play-by-play personality." He also was named the best golf host in a 2002 Golf Digest survey and had the largest margin of victory of any individual in the poll.
