I LOVE HER, I HATE HER THE SECRETS OF MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS, ON ABC NEWS 20/20, FRIDAY, JANUARY 27

From the wild to the wonderful, 20/20 explores the passionate relationships between mothers and daughters, including three moms who push the boundaries of modern motherhood, a mother-daughter duo who are more like sisters, and another mothers lasting legacy. I Love Her, I Hate Her The Secrets of Mothers and Daughters airs on 20/20, FRIDAY, JANUARY 27 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ,ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Not your mothers mother 20/20 introduces viewers to three moms who put a new twist on modern motherhood. Molly Shattuck, a mom to three kids and wife to a Fortune 500 CEO, chased her dream of becoming a pro football cheerleader at the age of 38 when she tried out with girls half her age for the Baltimore Ravens squad. She beat out hundreds of women, traded in her mommy outfit for revealing uniforms, and now struts her stuff on the sidelines. Sheila Kelly, wife of The West Wing star Richard Schiff and mother of two kids, turned her fascination with pole dancing into a lucrative business, creating classes, books and DVDs and women everywhere are lining up to get in touch with their inner stripper. And if pole dancing is not enough, how about a mom taking it all off? Loree Bishoff, a 43-year-old mother from Carefree, Arizona, posed naked for Playboy magazine. How did her two 20-something kids respond to the sexy pictures of their mom? JuJu Chang reports.

And: The passionate relationship between mothers and daughters -- what makes them tick, and why are sometimes seemingly benign comments from one interpreted as explosive by the other? Best-selling author and relationship guru Deborah Tannen believes she has cracked the mystery of this relationship, and has written a new provocative book, Youre Wearing That? Mothers and Daughters in Conversation. Tannen shares her five years of research listening to conversations between mothers and daughters and explains to JuJu Chang why they love one another so deeply but drive each other nuts. 20/20 also gets insight from three mother-daughter teams -- Mary and Gabrielle of New York City, Annetta and Ande of Atlanta, and the Sullivans of Omaha.

Also: What happens when a mother and daughter are more like best friends or sisters? To dissect this non-traditional mother-daughter relationship, Bill Ritter spends time with E! Entertainments reality show stars The Gastineau Girls 40-something mom Lisa and 23-year-old daughter Brittany -- who together hop from New York to hot spots around the world looking for clothing, jewelry and a good time. But they also display a lot of tension and hostility toward each other. How real is this mother-daughter relationship?

Additionally: Mothers and daughters have complex relationships to begin with, so just imagine when the mother and daughter have different racial identities and different skin colors. Thats how Angela Nissel, now 31, grew up as the child of bi-racial parents. Nissel, along with her mother, Gwen Marshall, talk candidly to Deborah Roberts about the complications of having black skin with a white mom, and how it affected not only their relationship, but relationships with other people.

Plus: A mothers legacy After being diagnosed with fatal breast cancer, Erin Kramp videotaped 100 hours full of lifetime advice to help Peyton, her five-year-old, navigate the ups and downs of her growing years, as well as to leave a portrait of who she was. 20/20 first met Erin in 1997; she was 35 and Peyton was five. Bob Brown revisits Peyton, now 14, to see how her mothers taped messages have helped guide her through life since Erins death in 1998. Every time I see the tapes, I just know that she loved me, and thats such a great feeling to know that she really cared for me and she wanted me to be happy I dont know what Id do without it, Peyton says.

20/20 is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and John Stossel. David Sloan is the executive producer.
