OPRAH WINFREY TALKS TO NBC'S ANN CURRY
IN A RARE AND EMOTIONAL INTERVIEW, OPRAH WINFREY TELLS NBC'S ANN CURRY: "THE BEST IS YET TO COME" - SUNDAY, MAY 21 ON "DATELINE NBC"
NEW YORK -- May 16, 2006 -- In a rare and emotional interview, an impassioned and inspired Oprah Winfrey talks with NBC's Ann Curry about spirituality, the future, her thoughts about her fame and fortune, and how "The Color Purple" transformed her life. In addition, Winfrey discusses how the musical, "The Color Purple," came to be and how she feels about its success and Tony nomination. The interview will air on "Dateline NBC," Sunday, May 21 (7:00 PM/ET).
Below are excerpts from the interview, mandatory credit: "Dateline NBC":
RE: Her thoughts about her fame and fortune:
Winfrey: I can honestly say I have never made any decision based upon money. I don't. And, I'm not motivated by it.
RE: Her relationship with God:
Winfrey: I live in the space where God is. There is no question that that is why I am where I am, and why I have had the success that I've hadI allow myself to be guided by that which is greater than myself - than my personality. That's the truthI am doing the work that my soul came to do.
RE: The future:
Curry: Why don't you put your feet up?
Winfrey: I don't put my feet up because the goal wasn't to make a lot of money. The goal was to be used for a calling greater than I know I feel that I am in the best place for myself now. And yet, the best is yet to comeI do feel that there is something stirring, you know, something's going on with me that is getting more focusedI'm just beginningThe whole television show thing, that was about the foundation for it. Because look at the society we live in. Nobody listens to you unless you have some bling, some money, some clout, some access. And so, that's what that was for. It was to put me in a position where I could be heard for the ultimate voice of what really matters. And I think there's yet to come.
