How did Chris Gardner go from being homeless and living in a Bay Area Rapid Transit Station bathroom in Oakland, CA, to heading his own brokerage firm, owning three homes, including a posh Chicago townhouse, with a collection of designer suits and a Ferrari? ABC News Correspondent Bob Brown tells the ultimate rags-to-riches story. Gardner tells ABC just what motivated him to beat the odds and rise from his life on the streets, all while taking care of his young son. 20/20 airs FRIDAY, MAY 26 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. In an update of this story, which originally aired in 2003, Garner says that he fielded a lot of offers related to his rise from homelessness to wealth after people watched 20/20. In fact, a book about his life entitled The Pursuit of Happiness will be published this week, and actor Will Smith is turning Garners life into a movie expected to be in theaters this winter.

Also: James Perry lived a double life he was a husband and father living in a family neighborhood in Madison, Wisconsin who, for more than five years, committed dozens of sexual attacks against children and young women. When the man known as the mall rapist was finally caught, investigators found 100 hours of video and hundreds of pictures, some of which was distributed on the internet. Through them, investigators gained unique insight into how this serial rapist operated and how hard it was to catch the man hiding in plain sight, as well as how vulnerable our children really are. Perrys wife speaks about living with a serial rapist. I was living with pure evil, a manipulator, a liar, pure evil. Part of me feels he didn't have one care And I didn't know, she tells ABC News correspondent Jim Avila. 20/20 also speaks with some of the girls who were attacked by Perry, as well as a detective on the case, sex crime expert Maureen Wall. This exclusive report originally aired in March 2005.

20/20 is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and John Stossel. David Sloan is the executive producer.
