Turner Network Television (TNT) is putting the summer on ice with the Wednesday, July 12, premiere of its chilling all-star television event NIGHTMARES & DREAMSCAPES: FROM THE STORIES OF STEPHEN KING. This four-week collection of eight mind-bending tales kicks off with the uninterrupted, commercial-free presentation of Battleground, starring Oscar winner William Hurt (Kiss of the Spider Woman, A History of Violence), sponsored by AutoTrader.com and Hyundai and Kia Motors America. It will be followed by nightmarish Crouch End, featuring Golden Satellite nominee Eion Bailey (And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself, Band of Brothers) and Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black, Ripley Under Ground).

In Battleground, Hurt plays a hired assassin whose latest target is a toy company owner played by Australian character actor Bruce Spence (The Road Warrior, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King). After successfully dispatching his victim, Hurt returns to his luxurious apartment only to be greeted by a mysterious package of toy soldiers. But these soldiers have something far worse than simple war games in mind. This unique adaptation of the King story from the 1978 anthology Nightshift is told without any spoken dialogue. The teleplay was written by Richard Christian Matheson (Mobius, It Waits), with Brian Henson (Farscape, Muppet Treasure Island) directing.

Crouch End tells the tale of a young American couple honeymooning in London. When they receive a call from a friend inviting them to dinner, they set out in a cab to find their friends house in an area known as Crouch End, which many years earlier had suffered an underground tragedy, which their cab driver describes as a rift between two dimensions. After being abandoned in Crouch End, the two find themselves trapped in an alternate world where evil rules supreme. Crouch End features a teleplay by Kim LeMasters (Threshold) based on the short story by Stephen King. It was directed by Mark Haber (Border Patrol, Alien Cargo, Daisies in December).
