�PRIMETIME: MEDICAL MYSTERIES� EXAMINES RARE AND EXTRAORDINARY MEDICAL CASES, AUGUST 23 ON ABC

This week �Primetime: Medical Mysteries� continues with reports on some of the rarest identical twin cases known to medicine today. While medical science has progressed exponentially, the series takes a look at the cases that still leave scientists and doctors with unanswered questions when trying to explain the human body. �Primetime: Medical Mysteries� airs WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

First: Identical twins are fascinating � they can look the same, can act the same and often share similar thoughts, even when one is unaware the other twin exists. Bob Brown updates a story of two women - twins adopted separately at birth and reunited in mid-life.

Then: John Quinones reports on a fight for survival when twins attached to the same placenta struggle in the womb for the nutrients they need to survive. TTTS, or Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome, confronts parents with brutal choices. Faced with losing either one or both of the twins, they must often choose between risky laser-surgery or termination. The report looks at two couples afflicted by TTTS. �Primetime� follows one couple on an emotional rollercoaster as they do whatever they can to save their babies, while the other couple provides perspective on what can be gained or lost in this life-and-death drama.

And: Could it be a medical first? His neighbors know him as Sanjay Kumar, the pregnant man. For much of his 36 years, Sanjay has had a belly so distended that he looks like he is about to deliver a baby. Expecting to find a tumor, doctors operate. What they find is Sanjay�s long lost twin, a deceased silent passenger borne by Sanjay through the decades. John Quinones reports.

Also: Throughout the episode there will be clues to another real life medical mystery on �You Be the Doctor.� The interactive segment allows viewers to assess medical clues and vote online for a diagnosis. At the end of the hour, the audience learns if they chose the right answer.
