DO ONE SEDUCTIVE TRAINER, TWO GORGEOUS WOMEN AND A TWISTED PLOT ADD UP TO MURDER? -- "48 HOURS MYSTERY," SATURDAY, OCT. 14
On July 5, 2003, 37-year-old Sandra Rozzo of Pinnellas Park, Fla. was shot eight times at point-blank range while she sat defenseless in her car. According to police, Timothy "Tracy" Humphrey's name was the first to come up as a possible suspect. Humphrey proclaimed his innocence, but evidence would lead investigators to discover a twisted plot involving seduction, manipulation and murder on 48 HOURS MYSTERY: "Dangerous Liaisons," Saturday, Oct. 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Humphrey was a six-foot-two muscleman and top personal trainer in Tampa, Fla. He was very popular with his female clientele and enjoyed the company of sexy women -- apparently lots of women, according to friends. Rozzo, a divorcee, who had never given up on finding someone special, met Humphrey at a night club where they both worked. They shared a love for fitness, and were devoted to their gorgeous bodies. The two began what Humphrey describes as a passionate love affair. After a few months, though, the relationship soured and they decided to part ways. But within days of that decision, Rozzo spent one last night with Humphrey, after which she accused him of rape. Rozzo waited a week before reporting the incident to police. Though there was evidence to show that she had been beaten, by that time, there was no physical evidence of rape. Police charged Humphrey with assault. If convicted, he faced up to10 years in prison.
Humphrey was seemingly unaffected by the upcoming trial. He continued partying and entertaining many attractive women. So naturally, people were surprised when he began dating 19-year-old Ashley Laney, just out of high school and very different from Humphrey's usual love interests. Friends describe Laney as a vivacious young woman with a troubled home life that left her vulnerable and eager for love.
Over time, Laney's friends noticed Humphrey becoming increasingly influential over her life. The couple even moved in together and started their own personal training business. Humphrey eventually told Laney that he could be facing serious jail time because of the assault case involving his ex-girlfriend. Only weeks before the trial, Humphrey and Laney shocked everyone by getting married. The very next day, Sandra Rozzo was murdered. With an airtight alibi, police knew there was no way Humphrey could be the shooter. But, just how far would Laney go for love?
