STONE PHILLIPS INTERVIEWS DIANE ZAMORA - SUNDAY ON "DATELINE NBC"
"DATELINE NBC" EXCLUSIVE: IN HER FIRST-EVER INTERVIEW, DIANE ZAMORA TELLS HER SIDE OF THE STORY IN THE INFAMOUS "TEXAS CADET MURDER" CASE TO NBC'S STONE PHILLIPS, INSISTING, "I'M NOT A KILLER"
Zamora Agreed to a Polygraph Test for the Report Airing on Sunday, April 7 at 7PM
New York April 5, 2007 Now 29 and serving a life sentence at a Texas prison, former US Navy midshipman Diane Zamora speaks out to Stone Phillips in a "Dateline NBC" exclusive. Dubbed the "Texas Cadet Murder," the 1995 killing of Adrianne Jones made national headlines and spawned a made for TV movie. Zamora and her boyfriend, Air Force Academy cadet David Graham, were ultimately convicted of murder in separate trials. Now, for the first time, Zamora shares her side of the story, saying the things she said in her confession were lies. For the interview, she agrees to a polygraph test and "Dateline" reports on the results.
In the exclusive interview, airing on Sunday, April 7 (7:00 PM/ET), Zamora explains to Phillips that reliving and retelling the story publicly is the only hope she has of explaining away her own damning words to police. "I'm not a killer," she tells Phillips. "I'm not some witch. I'm not some evil-hearted person, not even close." When asked why she didn't go to police immediately after she saw her boyfriend shoot Jones, Zamora says, " at the time I was thinking with my heart and not my headand more than anything, I wanted to protect him." For the multipart report, Phillips also interviews the investigator who took Zamora's confession, all to get to the bottom of what happened along that country road in Grand Prairie, Texas where the murder occurred in the early morning hours of December 4, 1995.
David Corvo is the executive producer of "Dateline NBC."
