"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" REBUILDS A HOME FOR A SELFLESS FAMILY
WHO TOOK CUSTODY OF THEIR RELATIVES' FIVE YOUNG CHILDREN
ORPHANED BY THEIR PARENTS' DEATH
Ty and the gang surprises the Collins family from Murfreesboro, AR, with the good news that their deteriorating, single-story home will be renovated to meet the needs of their recently enlarged family in a remarkable seven days, on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," SUNDAY, APRIL 29 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Kim and Dennis Collins believe that there's nothing more important than family. When tragedy stuck in the form of a car accident that killed Kim's favorite cousin and her husband, Kim and Dennis took hold of the situation. They fought hard for two years to take custody over the cousin's five children, not wanting them to become separated by the foster care system
No strangers to tragedy themselves, the Collins' own son, Mitchell, survived a rare form of brain cancer when he was just three years old that left him hearing and mentally impaired. Like his father and mother, Mitchell, now 18, also helps others in need. This July, with the help of his community, he collected pop tabs to raise money for young cancer patients in the Arkansas Children's hospital, gathering 300 pounds of tabs, the most in Arkansas.
The Collins' house is full of love -- but also many problems: Their living space has become overcrowded, they don't have the financial means to get the proper additions to their house, and they're constantly facing problems with flooding and insulation.
This family never thinks twice about lending a helping hand to others, so now it's time for Ty and the rest of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" crew to create a home that's large enough for the six children to comfortably grow up in.
While Ty and the designers, local builder Realsteel Homes and hundreds of volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the Collins family will go on vacation to Walt Disney World.
The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael Moloney, Eduardo Xol, Tanya McQueen and John Littlefield. The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It's executive-produced by Denise Cramsey. David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.
