"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" HELPS A FAMILY AND THEIR COURAGEOUS
AND INSPIRING DAUGHTER WHO SUFFERS FROM PEDIATRIC CANCER
"Byers Family" -- The Byers family of Corvallis, OR received the good news that Ty and the gang will build them a new home in just seven days, on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Diagnosed with pediatric cancer in 2006, seven-year-old Jenessa Byers decided she wanted to help others find the strength and inspiration to beat cancer. So she and her mother, Rachel, developed a webpage where she posts daily affirmations like "cancer sucks." Her mission is to raise awareness and financial support for pediatric cancer. Over the past 12 months, millions of people worldwide have logged on to see this little girl's video blog chronicling her fight against cancer. Jenessa has also raised money, toys and donations for other cancer patients.
Before Jenessa was diagnosed with cancer, the Byers had dreams of renovating their home. But as soon as the cancer appeared, the renovations became the least of their worries. An outdated and dirty heating system only heats a part of the home, and the wiring is exposed throughout the house, making it dangerous for the children to be around. In addition, mold and toxins have caused health concerns to both Jenessa and her brother, 13-year-old Joey, who suffers from severe asthma.
The condition of the home is so bad that it has forced Joey to move into his grandparents' home. To make matters worse, Jenessa's cancer has reappeared. In this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," Ty and the gang will fix the home and reunite this family, so they can fight against Jenessa's cancer together.
While Ty and the designers, local builder Legend Homes and hundreds of volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the Byers family will go on vacation to Disney Vacation Club in Hilton Head, NC.
This season every episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is going green by incorporating eco-friendly, low-energy and recyclable resources in the builds. For the Byers family, the home will have new bathrooms made from 90% recycled material. These well built cast-iron-with-enamel lavatories are not only eco-friendly, but they also withstand staining, scratching and chipping, and provide exceptional durability.
The design team for this episode will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders, Tracy Hutson and Tanya McQueen. The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It's executive-produced by Denise Cramsey. David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.
