MYSTERY AND HUMOR ABOUND IN THE ECCENTRIC CHARACTERS OF "LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS," WITH JIM CARREY, JUDE LAW AND MERYL STREEP, PREMIERING SATURDAY, DECEMBER 22 ON ABC

Enjoy the darkly humorous film adaptation of the popular children's novels in "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events," premiering as the "ABC Saturday Movie of the Week," DECEMBER 22 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Lemony Snicket (Jude Law) narrates the story of the Baudelaire children, Violet (Emily Browning), Klaus (Liam Aiken) and Sunny (Kara and Shelby Hoffman), recently orphaned by a mysterious fire that killed both of their parents. With nowhere to turn, the court appoints their mischievous relative, Count Olaf (Jim Carrey), their legal guardian -- until it becomes apparent that he is just determined to get, by any means necessary, the inheritance left to the oldest daughter. Lemony Snicket chronicles the adventures of the three children as they're passed around to their unusual family members, Aunt Josephine (Meryl Streep) and Uncle Monty (Billy Connolly), while they try to escape Count Olaf's evil plots to gain access to the fortune.

"Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" stars Jim Carrey ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Bruce Almighty," "Ace Ventura") as Count Olaf, Liam Aiken ("Stepmom," "Road to Perdition") as Klaus Baudelaire, Emily Browning ("The Echo of Thunder," "The Man Who Sued God") as Violet Baudelaire, Kara and Shelby Hoffman ("General Hospital") as Sunny Baudelaire, Meryl Streep ("Lions for Lambs," "Rendition," "The Devil Wears Prada," "Sophie's Choice") as Aunt Josephine, Billy Connolly ("The Aristocrats," "White Oleander," "The Last Samurai") as Uncle Monty, Timothy Spall ("Enchanted," "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" ) as Mr. Poe, Luis Guzman ("Traffic," "Out of Sight," "Boogie Nights") as Bald Man, Craig Ferguson ("Saving Grace," "The Big Tease") as Person of Indeterminate Gender, Cedric the Entertainer ("Barbershop," "Code Name: The Cleaner") as Detective and Jude Law ("The Holiday," "The Aviator," "Cold Mountain") as the voice of Lemony Snicket.

The film, released in 2004, was directed by Brad Silberling and is based on the first three novels, The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room and The Wide Window, of the Lemony Snicket book series. It was nominated for four Academy Awards. The screenplay was written by Robert Gordon. "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" is a production of Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks.
