ABC News Special Anchored By Charles Gibson Airs Wednesday, May 7 At 10:00 P.M.

"Audition: Barbara Walters' Journey," an ABC News Special, reports on the woman behind the television icon. Today Barbara Walters is a household name´┐Żbut how that happened is an intriguing and unlikely story. From her unconventional and often turbulent childhood to her drive and determination to succeed, the special is about both becoming and being Barbara Walters. In candid interviews with Charles Gibson, Walters tells of the difficulties and challenges she faced, and of the twists of fate that helped shape her career. She also reveals deeply personal details of her journey, from growing up with a "slow" older sister to her three marriages and several serious romances. "Audition: Barbara Walters' Journey," anchored by Charles Gibson, airs on WEDNESDAY, MAY 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network and coincides with the publication of her autobiography, Audition, by Knopf.

The program also features interviews with Oprah Winfrey, who says she considers Walters a role model, as well as Walters' colleagues, Hugh Downs and Sam Donaldson, and her daughter, Jackie Danforth, among others.
