NBC PRIMETIME HIGHLIGHTS:
A night of individual event finals in gymnastics sees China's Cheng Fei as the gold medal favorite on women's vault, where she has won the last three world titles. And Cheng could win a second gold on floor exercise. But Team USA leader Alicia Sacramone is a medal contender on both events, and her teammate Shawn Johnson (called by some "The Next Mary Lou") won the world title on floor in 2007. 2008 Beijing Olympics All-Around Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin also competes on floor.
Tonight, the title of "World's Fastest Woman" is settled in the women's 100m final. One safe bet: Miami's Lauryn Williams should be very much in the mix for gold. The former Miami Hurricane won 2004 Olympic silver, the 2005 world title and silver at the 2007 Worlds. Surprise Olympic Trials winner Muna Lee and Torri Edwards round out the deep USA team, who likely will face tough competition from any or all of three fast and formidable sprinters from Jamaica.
China's diving queen Guo Jingjing will strive for perfection at the Water Cube as she attempts to defend her Olympic title in the women's 3m springboard final. Her biggest challenger? That would be her synchro partner, 2004 Olympic silver medalist Wu Minxia.
NBC DAYTIME HIGHLIGHTS:
Four years ago, Beijing wasn't on Sara Hammer's radar. But the former prodigy who had burned out on the sport snapped out of her early retirement when she saw a cyclist she had beaten before (Sarah Ulmer of New Zealand) win Olympic gold in Athens. Now a two-time world champion in the women's individual pursuit, Hammer is a legitimate gold medal contender.
The USA Women's Basketball Team has been unbeatable at the Olympics (three straight Olympic golds and not a single loss in Olympic play since 1992), but Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Lisa Leslie & Co. have something to prove after finishing third at the 2006 World Championship. Their next chance to make a statement: a live matchup against New Zealand.
Ever consider trying to run over six miles in less than 28 minutes? Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele is the best in the world in the 10,000m, and tonight, the three-time reigning world champion seeks his second straight Olympic gold to conclude a night of finals in Track & Field.
NBC LATENIGHT HIGHLIGHTS:
Tonight, Track & Field Gold Medal Finals feature the men's hammer throw and women's triple jump and steeplechase.
USA NETWORK HIGHLIGHTS:
The world's top tennis stars look to add Olympic hardware to their Grand Slam collections in the men's singles and women's doubles finals.
MSNBC HIGHLIGHTS:
In what could be the final Olympics ever for softball (the sport is being removed from the Olympic program after Beijing), the USA Softball Team has one clear mission: claim a fourth straight Olympic gold. The current challenge is a matchup against the Netherlands.
CNBC LATENIGHT HIGHLIGHTS:
During the course of a normal 2-hour workout, USA weightlifter Cheryl Haworth lifts as much as 25 tons the equivalent of an F-15 fighter jet or five African elephants. Tonight, she doesn't need to lift any airplanes or circus animals she simply has to hoist more than anyone else in the super heavyweight class in the hopes of adding another Olympic medal to her 2000 Olympic bronze.
