"SHAQ VS OSCAR DE LA HOYA," TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 ON ABC
"Shaq VS Oscar de la Hoya" � Shaquille O'Neal will challenge championship fighter Oscar de la Hoya to a five-round heavy-hitting matchup exhibition before a star-studded crowd at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, NV in the latest installment of "Shaq VS," the new competition series starring NBA superstar Shaquille O'Neal, airing TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Leading up to the challenge, Shaq, who coins himself "Manny Shaqquiao" for the exhibition match-up, will get boxing tips and be coached by Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, while Oscar "The Golden Boy" de la Hoya gets trained by "the Executioner" Bernard Hopkins for this contest between speed and power. After rigorous preparations in both camps, see what happens when Shaq, who is an overbearing 7'1" and 320 pounds gets in the ring with Oscar at 5"10' and 160 pounds for this electrifying bout.
Mike Goldberg and Pat Tomasulo host, while Charissa Thompson serves as sideline reporter.
The series closely follows Shaq and his athletic adversary throughout the rigorous training process and the pre-game hype, including press conferences and interviews, all leading up to the final competition. To level the playing field, O'Neal will negotiate a handicap with his opponent in some events and train with a coach for one week leading up to each challenge.
"Shaq VS" is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format, with 5.1 channel surround sound and Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. A TV parental guideline will be assigned closer to airdate.
