"FIND MY FAMILY" REUNITES A MOTHER WITH THE SON SHE GAVE UP
AS A TEENAGER AND HELPS A DAUGHTER FIND HER BIRTH MOTHER
AFTER THE DEATH OF HER ADOPTIVE MOTHER
"Find My Family" lends a helping hand to a grieving daughter in search of her birth mother after losing her adoptive mother to ovarian cancer, and gives her news she never could have expected. In addition, Tim, Lisa and the search team help a mother find the son she gave up for adoption as a teenager, on "Find My Family," MONDAY, DECEMBER 21 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on ABC.
The "Find My Family" team travels to San Diego, CA to meet Tina Nadeau, a single mom raising two beautiful daughters. Tina absolutely loves her kids and has a wonderful life, but the hole left in her heart after giving up her son as a teenager has only deepened over the past 28 years. Tina got pregnant when she was just 16 and a junior in high school in South Dakota. Her parents decided she should give the baby up for adoption and sent Tina to live with her aunt and uncle in California. Fifteen years later, when Tina lived in South Dakota with her two daughters, she'd still spend every day thinking about the son she'd given up. Eventually she decided to pick up her girls and move back to the San Diego area to search for her son. She used the internet and adoption websites, any outlets that might produce a lead, but frustrated and discouraged, she always ran into dead ends. It's time for Tim, Lisa and the investigative team to find Tina's son and to offer Tina a chance at the forgiveness she seeks.
Then "Find My Family" heads to Crestview, FL to meet Denise Bashaw, a 27-year-old mother trying to keep up with two adorable children while her husband serves overseas in the Air Force. Denise always knew she was adopted and could not have asked for better parents. But 10 years ago her world was turned upside down when her adoptive mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, passing away less than a year later. At 16 Denise made a promise to herself that somehow, some way, she would find her birth mother and thank her for giving her the ultimate gift a better life. In 2001 records in Oregon were unsealed and Denise was able to obtain her pre-adoption birth record. This record included her birth mother's name and other pertinent information from the time of her adoption. Despite having such great information to start her search, Denise has come up empty. Now "Find My Family" will take the search reins and try to find the family and answers this grieving daughter has sought her entire life.
Each episode of "Find My Family" is a one-hour, self-contained show filled with moving moments when mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who lost touch for decades are reunited. It begins with the back stories of two different families in search of lost relatives. With only minimal information, the "Find My Family" team takes up the difficult and frustrating task of sifting through archives and records to uncover missing links. Then Lisa Joyner reaches out to the newly-found family members and lets them know that someone from their biological family has been looking for them. Tim Green narrates each story as it unfolds and meets with the people who originated the search. The in-person reunions take place at the "Family Tree," and a follow-up with each family concludes the episode.
Tom Forman, Julie Laughlin-Jones, Chris Coelen and Tony Yates are executive producers. "Find My Family" is produced by RelativityReal and RDF USA. It's broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.
